@zeacology Hi Ellie! Sorry I didn't get back to you, went on a week-long trip up to our cabin after the defense! I defended in Michigan over Zoom (kind of like skype, I'd never heard of it before) it worked out pretty well. Morning in NZ for the reviewers and Sunday afternoon for me! ๐
I've successfully defended my PhD #thesis on estuarine foundation species after a long road of research, fieldwork, and writing! I am so happy and ready for what life brings me next! #phdchat ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๐๐
WE WILL NO LONGER USE the GRE for admissions decisions in keeping w/ a nationwide trend and under advice from @umichgradschool & @umichLSA. Studies show GRE correlates w/ economic status, race & gender rather likelihood of grad school success. Pls RT #GRExit

As a relatively shy person, networking at conferences is something I struggle with. This article has some good suggestions to make it easier. Here are some other strategies I use too:
@jennypannell @FarmNatCons P.S. Powerpoint has a max res of 300 dpi! Hence if you need higher quality you need to re-scale in Photoshop or similar software (like GIMP - freeware!) ๐
@jennypannell @FarmNatCons Illustrator is great (if you can afford the license/have it provided) Inkscape is similar but freeware! Unfortunately both have a learning curve, which I haven't gotten over yet. Classes or youtube videos? For now I use Powerpoint and then into photoshop to create high-res figs
@testeeves @jenheemstra I totally agree, & tried in my thesis, but have been told certain words are 'unscientific', so I take them out. I think it's important for supervisors & reviewers to understand this almost more so, as many young scientists apply this rhtetoric, only to be struck down by them ๐
