Most games from that time period are designed with Arcades in mind to consume the most quarters possible. Lots of repetitive gameplay that gets exponentially more difficult with every level. Home consoles weren’t much better, game designers didn’t have a lot of storage space on the cartridges so they also relied on difficulty to keep their audience engaged.
Overall much of the 80s was just coin-guzzling slop that didn’t have much to offer consumers.
