@bradncpa We run into this frequently. The fungus is carried by the mountain pine beetle which is in an outbreak cycle right now.

Today we took down a huge ponderosa that’s was full of mountain pine beetle and on its death bed. You can see the blue fungus that was choking the xylum process.

Approx 40-45” diameter at the stump.

@theron_olsen What if you rent a compact track loader with grapple bucket? If you have zero experience running heavy equipment then I think a track loader is easier to learn on the fly than an excavator.

@BlueCollarInvr About a year later I got a request to grind 8 stumps for a customer. I rented a Bobcat stump grinder attachment for my T870 and I was able to grind 8 stumps in the time it took to grind one stump with the broke down Barretto.

@BlueCollarInvr I rented a similar Barretto stump grinder and it took a long time but got the job done. It was practically brand new (less than 100 hours) and broke down which took so much longer to get the job done.

This is my first post outlining my journey to becoming forestry and tree service professional. I started my company in May 2024 after spending 25 years building various parts of the internet.

My journey started after getting laid off from a large internet provider. My entire team was included in the reduction in force which hit me hard because I felt a duty to my team members. After that gut punch, I knew I never wanted corporate overlords again and had a desire to start my own company so I could control my professional destiny.

We are in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and there is an abundance of forestry and tree work in the area. I rented a Bobcat forestry mulcher to clear a few trees on my property and, within an hour of running the machine, my neighbor asked if I could help him remove some trees.

Over the course of the week, we removed 330 trees and got him to pass his home owner insurance defensible space inspection.

The proof of concept was a success so we (my wife and I) decided to start Clear Creek Fire Mitigation.

I’ll post follow ups with more of the story but that’s it for now.
