I feel like Scott/Steelwool should have done more with the mimic before explaining the entirety of its backstory.
It would have made the "transition" to the new cast a lot smoother and could have even prevented opinions like Tom's from ever happening.

I think Tom's point was that their deaths (especially Edwins) have basically no relevancy to what is happening in the story nowadays.
Their names basically go unmentioned after the events of SOTM
