So happy to talk about my college experience at Louisiana Tech, the path that led to a career studying wildfires at Cal Poly, and what we can do to slow the terrible destruction we’ve witnessed recently. https://t.co/xu1QqQW2eR
Stoked that my @CalPoly Wildland Urban Interface Fire Protection was featured on the local news for their work to protect the community of Cambria, California. Thanks @SophiaVillalba4 and @KSBY for this cool story! Link: https://t.co/QmX2VAzcyV
@gollnerfire@nplareau I knew at the age of 19 (while in school at Louisiana Tech of all places) that I wanted to “get a PhD and study fire in the mountains”. Glad us old timers have been playing in the proverbial sandbox together for so long!
I live a block from the water and experienced this crazy thing, which was brief but VERY eerie. I grew up in Arkansas where twisters are somewhat common, but I NEVER would have expected this here on the left coast.
Jack Jones took this photo of a funnel cloud along Los Osos Valley Road looking westward toward Los Osos as an active band of convective clouds moved eastward toward #SLOWeather. There have been no reports of the funnel cloud reaching the ground and becoming a tornado. #CaWx
Flooding on Turri Road near Los Osos California after the atmospheric river has rolled through. Water is scary dangerous so PLEASE don’t try to cross these flooded roadways.
Slurry retardant drop on wildfire in San Luis Obispo as seen from my building on the Cal Poly campus. Fire made a quick climb on hill above high school and seems headed south above Johnson Avenue with high intensity.
Holy moly! Is this now THREE wildfire ignitions happening on and around the Ca Poly campus in San Luis Obispo??? I’m SUPPOSED to be at a meeting of public and private WUI Fire experts right now, but this (unfortunately) turning into a living lab. #BurnByDoig???
New wildfire start in San Luis Obispo, California as seen from my building on the Cal Poly campus. Fire currently burning above #SLO High making decent spread. Yikes!

Another great day in the “office” on a prescribed fire with @CalPoly students. These Forest & Fire Sciences majors likely learned more in 5 hours than in 5 weeks of classroom lectures. Thanks @CALFIRE_SLO for the invite and continued support! #LearnByDoing
Good stuff as always. Look for great new science on fire ecology and management, and upcoming conferences and webinars germane to those who study, live, and work in the world of wildfire.
The CFSC will be publishing our quarterly newsletter next week. The upcoming newsletter features 8 new briefs, job postings, and much more! You don't want to miss it! Subscribe to receive our newsletter: https://t.co/fw8103fQAk
The fire-prevention community is in shock after the sudden and tragic passing of Associate Professor Kevin Tolhurst, who was “critical to fire prediction” in Victoria. More: https://t.co/ujJBI5zwUb
AWESOME field tour today demonstrating all of the amazing, collaborative #fuels work to reduce #wildfire#risk to local communities and increase #forest#resiliency on public and private lands around the Shasta Trinity National Forest in n. California!
