There is a hierarchy of feeder channels that seem to be systematically defunded or degraded by the ECB. It's not just grass roots is it. The ECB seems to have lost sight of what its core responsibility is to nurture, protect and advance the game.
To see the @ECB_cricket cut around £200k funding from the uni scheme when so much money is being paid to other areas is sad. The issues for players leaving the game without an education can be huge. The message is, if you want to be a pro cricketer you can’t get a degree.
@elonmusk Billionaire demagogue & purveyor of disinformation, and supporter of a convicted felon, who misuses his social-media platform to dump lies on the President & his administration and saturate this space with toxic, swivel-eyed content, can't understand why Biden's not a fan. Weird.
@DavidKHopps You'd need a heart of stone not to love Somerset CCC. The club captures everything that is great about the Championship, including the valiant and deserved attempts to shrug off the Cinderella reputation. They continue to develop new stars and punch so far above their weight.
@IanDunt You can't take the politics out of this. Starmer must also be testing the water. How hostile the obvious reaction would be from the usual suspects. How much sway do the ideological Brexiters still have? This is a big political signal.
@jonlis1 How did Thames Water pay out nearly £200 million in dividends last year if it can't survive? If there were not sufficient profits, the dividend must be unlawful. Claw it back.
@jonlis1 I'm not clear why Brexiters still get to control the agenda. It's not just that even the 52% did not get the Brexit they thought they were voting for, but ignoring the lies & Cambridge Analytica & the foreign interference, the majority now want closer ties with the EU.
@IanDunt The thing about managing expectations is the dividend you get when you explode them. I'd be astonished if Starmer intends the answer to lie somewhere in the footsteps of George Osborne. Even I expect Starmer to start making a difference.
I've been on this site for just over 10 years now, and never found it more unappetising. Musk has turned this site into a misinformation platform while pretending it's all about free speech. All freedoms come with responsibilities. Musk is a total fake. Clickbait for profit.
@PeterStefanovi2 Yes. If Starmer does not address Brexit, he risks being as ideological in denial as the Tories were in fixating about Europe in the first place.
What kind of Brexit did people vote for? Not the one we got.
What do people want now? Not the deal we got.
The referendum result was one moment in time. Even putting the flaws and lies and foreign interference to one side, one moment in time does not bind folk in perpetuity.
@WG_RumblePants I tend to remember the 80s for Botham, Gower and Gooch. But everyone forgets Mike Brearley. He may not have personified the fireworks, but he surely lit the fuse.
@elonmusk It's 2024 and the multi-billionaire owner of a mass-communications platform spreads misinformation to progress his own personal, political and financial interests.
It's like that my feed is dominated by Elon Musk posting on his own site and being increasingly right wing & swivel-eyed. It's like subscribing to the Times and finding Rupert Murdoch has written every article. This is narcism on a Trumpian scale.
Is there anywhere else to go?
Reflected a bit about Graham Thorpe. Such an early passing. Younger than me. That fucks my mind for a start. Always made team he was in better than it should be. Just missed out on the glory time(s). He would've been a shoo in for any England team of the last several generations.
