40 years ago today, April 29, 1986, Roger Clemens struck out 20 Mariners in a 3–1 win at Fenway, becoming the first pitcher in MLB history to hit the 20‑K mark. Only about 13,000 showed up, because Boston was glued to Celtics–Hawks at the Garden. A historic night that half the city barely noticed.
