🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia confirmed Thursday that the tanker Encelia was struck in the Red Sea, hours after Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis, claimed the attack.

An official source at the kingdom’s Transport General Authority told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) the vessel, operated by a Saudi company, “was targeted while sailing in the Red Sea, resulting in a fire at the bow of the ship.”

All crew members are safe, the source said, and authorities have taken measures to secure the vessel and crew and protect the marine environment. The authority gave no details on the Layla, the second tanker Ansar Allah said it struck.

A maritime security source told Reuters that the Encelia sent a distress call reporting it had been struck by a missile off Jizan, on Saudi Arabia’s southern Red Sea coast near the Yemen border. British risk firm Vanguard said the ship was hit on its right side, about 80 miles southwest of Al Shuqaiq, another Saudi coastal city.

▪️Shalamcheh border crossing (Khuzestan Province): Area around the passenger terminal struck, killing 2 people and injuring 11 others.

▪️Andimeshk (Khuzestan Province): Area near the city targeted by missile strikes.

▪️Ahvaz (Khuzestan Province): Two locations around the city targeted.

▪️Ramshir (Khuzestan Province): Two locations targeted, including an asphalt storage warehouse.

▪️Kiar County (Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province): Area hit in an airstrike; no casualties reported.

▪️Hormozgan Province: Two maritime search-and-rescue vessels struck, sustaining serious damage.

▪️Dashti County (Bushehr Province): Farmers' agricultural equipment hit in two missile strikes; the county was targeted three times, with no casualties reported.

▪️Bushehr city (Bushehr Province): Several areas targeted in two separate missile attacks; no fatalities reported.

Oil prices hit one-month high as US war on Iran escalates

Oil prices climbed to their highest levels in more than a month on Thursday, extending gains for a fifth consecutive session as intensifying exchange of strike between the US and Iran raised concerns over potential disruptions to global oil supply routes.

Brent crude futures rose $3.80, or 4%, to $97.87 a barrel by 07:44 GMT, reaching their highest level since 3 June.

US West Texas Intermediate crude gained $2.80, or 3.2%, to $89.63 a barrel after earlier hitting its highest level since 11 June.

Making comments on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in the Filipino capital, Manila, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Saudi Arabia remains an important strategic partner, noting that entering into a civil nuclear agreement with the Kingdom makes strategic sense. He reassured that any civil nuclear deal concluded with Saudi Arabia or other nations would incorporate strict safeguards, with individual agreements adjusted accordingly to ensure non-proliferation standards.

Rubio's statements come after US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman signed a peaceful nuclear cooperation agreement, commonly known as a 123 agreement, alongside an accompanying bilateral safeguards agreement.

Discussing Iran, Rubio stated that the United States continues to seek a fully denuclearized Iran. While claiming that Washington has upheld its end of obligations, he said that Iran currently does not appear ready to reach a deal and warned that it will pay the price.
