I love my mom, but I don’t want to be like her
I love my dad, but I don’t want to marry a man like him
I loved my childhood, but I don’t want my kids to experience a childhood like mine
For the longest time, I thought admitting this would make me look like an ungrateful daughter but I’ve come to realise that loving the people who raised you and wanting a different life from theirs can exist at the same time
You can love your parents and still choose to break certain cycles. You can be grateful for where you came from and still want something different for yourself and your children
One of the things I’m learning in this season is that People lie. A lot. People will look you in the eye and manipulate the truth. Your head will spin.
At this stage of my life, I pray that I keep meeting the right people, people who genuinely want the best for me, people who will hold me in high regard.
I'm tired of meeting just anyone, today we are friends, tomorrow we are strangers.
I want people who will bring peace, people who will give me the push I need. And when they come, I pray to God for the grace to value and keep them. 🙏
The person you marry is the person you fight with. The house you buy is the house you repair. The dream job you take is the job you stress over. Everything comes with an inherent sacrifice—whatever makes us feel good will also inevitably make us feel bad.
Thunder fire chasing women with money.
This their interactions reminded me of this video Eric Gugua made.
He said something in the lines of—
"Please, young people, don't lead with money. Lead with things like conversation, like connection, like presence, like compliment.
Lead with the simpler things of life. And if they don't genuinely like you because of these things, you already have your answer."
And it makes absolute sense.
See how he mentioned the gospel and it became the connector that pushed them to hold hands immediately, introducing physical touch that they both allowed to linger.
Menh!
If you're using money to chase relationship, you're missing out on what's truly beautiful about the entire experience.
God is really my friend. My guy, for real. I go to bed wondering how I’ll make it through tomorrow, and somehow He lets me rest, wakes me to the beauty of a new day, and carries me through it too. Life feels worth living again. He really hears me.
If you never want to be an inconvenience, then you’ll never have any meaningful friendship, a meaningful marriage, or any meaningful relationship with anyone.
To love someone is to inconvenience them, it is to need them, it is to interrupt their plans, it is to ask for help, to need a ride at 2 in the morning to the airport, to need a store run because you must eat pickles right at this moment, all of it an annoying inconvenience.
And yet all of it also a wonderful inconvenience.
To be loved is to be inconvenienced, because a life where nobody bothers you, where nobody inconveniences you, is not a better happier one, it is just simply, and plainly, terribly lonely.
You will probably sometimes lose your mind and if/when you do, make sure you’re doing it in his presence, not away from him.
Cry, but cry to him.
Crash out, but crash out to him.
Whatever you do in the losing your mind, don’t do it away from him.
He is near.
