The federal government through its then Crown corporation – CN – committed to maintaining rail service to Cape Breton should the sale of the line to a US shortline operator not be a business success. The feds need to get involved and meet their obligation. https://t.co/tSb1BS6d4h
Members, supporters and followers of Transport Action Atlantic are all welcome to attend our online annual general meeting on Saturday afternoon, 6 June 2026 at 1400 ADT (1430 in NL). The Zoom link is in the attached notice. https://t.co/5eX65I1S0O
Newfoundland and Labrador appeals to Ottawa as strike threatens ferry to Nova Scotia. This is certainly a reason for concern. But does the CLRB have the power to override the Government of Canada’s constitutional obligation regarding ferry service? https://t.co/wXf9lHboER
VIA Rail is proud to join the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program 🌻
This simple symbol lets travellers discreetly signal they may need more time or support, without having to explain their situation.

ICYMI — CBC Radio’s Maritime Noon with Bob Murphy: On the phone-in: We discuss the possibility of expanding rail service in Canada. Studio guest is TAA president Tim Hayman. The segment begins at the 14-minute mark in the show. Worth a listen! https://t.co/m5upo8qgeY
This special day appears to have passed without notice or celebration here in Canada. Speaks volumes about what a laggard we are when it comes to convenient, affordable and sustainable public transportation! https://t.co/KaePM6bVJg
Some of this actually makes sense! A good rail corridor from SJ to HFX already exists — it just needs to be better managed to accommodate an upgraded passenger service. This resolution merits a serious second look to determine what is reasonably feasible. https://t.co/f8pURkNtAq
The car-focused NS government is seeking strategies to deal with congestion caused by too many autos on HRM streets. Let’s hope they’ll identify some solutions — but first they’ve got to recognize that “two cars in every driveway” is not sustainable.

This is a sister ship to the former Atlantic Vision. Both 24 years old, and Marine Atlantic knew the Vision well.
With 20-20 hindsight, wouldn’t they have been much better off had they held on to the Vision and retired the Ericsson two years ago?

A strong case for maintaining a stable and reliable ferry service between Nova Scotia and eastern PEI. Take heed, Ottawa. Enough of the foot dragging! https://t.co/2kXGyx8y21
@ehcormij Simply put, Canada’s new government failed to fully deliver on its bridge and ferry tolls election pledge. Only Marine Atlantic was excluded from the 50% cut in commercial vehicle rates. It’s clearly discriminating against NL, and is totally unacceptable. Fix it now!
Good news here! Marine Atlantic should be well positioned for growth in the 2026 peak summer season. There will be accelerated demand for passenger vehicle capacity with the new lower rates that better reflect Ottawa’s constitutional obligation to NL. https://t.co/i6oELWEWu0
A convincing argument from an experienced professional for transit investment in Newfoundland’s Northeast Avalon. As the author writes, the future of transportation is NOT individual car ownership! https://t.co/3BZWoknq1F
@MarkJCarney Here’s the thing! We appreciate that the Carney Government delivered promptly on its promise of reduced bridge and ferry rates, but it must be noted that the Newfoundland ferries did not see the reduction for trucks that the other routes are now enjoying. That’s blatantly unfair!
Applause!
accompanied by a not-so-gentle reminder that Canada’s national passenger rail network is in dire need of rebuilding coast to coast — not just the Toronto-Quebec City corridor.
Let’s start with restoration of the derelict track used by VIA in northern New Brunswick.
Please repost if you agree that it’s just a little tone-deaf for VIA to be highlighting amenities no longer offered on the Ocean in this self-congratulatory video.
A thousand smiles, one legendary train, and a whole lot of heart 💛
Thank you, Halifax, for helping us celebrate The Ocean in style. Here’s to 120 more years of stories, laughter, and connection.

Dsconcerting to see the importance so many Canadians attach to “car culture” factors — from the price of fuel to potholes in the streets. Helps explain why convenient, affordable and sustainable public transportation gets short-changed by politicians! https://t.co/YOrdSRcuU7
