@LauraBabcock Yes , thing that makes Canada different from the USA these days :our non democratic government, maid, high taxes, weak military, no national identity, inability to start any project of value. Shall I continue? When our currency crashes in 18 months we can chat more..
@JeromyYYC Lack of government moving forward of enabling the O&G sector. Constant regulatory uncertainty does much more damage as evidenced by 100s of Billions is lost investment over thst last 15 years.
@kpac_15 Our politicians are all corrupt until proven innocent. It’s the nature of their game. The money and favours required to get elected . Compromised before they take the oath of office .
"I have heard some proponents of the carbon tax defend it by suggesting that the world will require decarbonized oil barrels going forward. To be honest, Cenovus places over one million barrels a day across three continents, and none of our customers have ever suggested or even asked about the carbon intensity of Canadian crudes.
If customers were willing to pay for decarbonized barrels, we would certainly see these price signals and not require government interference.
The carbon tax escalates through time, making our industry less resilient at lower commodity prices, and will require the premature shut-in and reclamation of oil producing projects that would otherwise be economic to produce.
Much of this is being orchestrated in the belief that we can build a functioning carbon market. The reality is that carbon markets are a political construct and there are no examples of functioning, enduring, or investible carbon markets to draw from." /5
@ClydeDoSomethin@cnm5000 They’ve been listening to Alberta’s grievances since the cows came home. Thst isn’t the challenge. It’s the absolute inertia when it come to DOING something about them.
@coreyhoganyyc Talk of seperation will die away when we have an equalized House of Commons and Senate. It’s fascinating how unlike Quebec none of Alberta’s issues are being addressed.
@oldcanadaseries Why would we lose our passports? Dual citizenship, it allowed in Canada. You’ll have to hand over the parks and a lot of cash to settle the debt you owe Alberta .
@irbrodie What isn’t gone… 3 Alberta votes to one PEI vote. 24 unelected senators in Ontario and Quebec each, 6 for each prairie province. Canada needs a reset or we leave
@GhostOf_J@PeterHRatcliffe Through out Covid I found the pro vax folks used the term science . They appears to miss the implementation of “scientific method”. That was the red flag for me with the shots. Anyone pushing an idea and claiming it’s unassailable, they are flat earthers.
Look, Alberta, you're in a deeply abusive relationship with Ottawa. They control our finances, slap us with endless equalization payments, restrict our main industry every chance they get, impose policies with don't agree with, and treat us like an ATM that also has to apologize for existing.
But hey... divorce is expensive. You'd have to get your own apartment (sovereignty), pay your own bills (debt share, military, borders, pensions), and figure out groceries (replacing federal programs).
That's like $200 billion upfront (i.e first 3-5 years) and $25 billion a year after that. Call it $40,000 per Albertan just to stop the beatings! We'll send that to Quebec in the next 5 years.
The alternative?? You're miserable, disrespected, and getting robbed blind every year... but at least you have a roof over your head (sort of) and you know the devil you know.
Is it really better to just keep quiet, take the abuse, and hope they occasionally throw you a few scraps instead of having to adult on your own?
Brett, Premier Smith, Kenney, Nenshi and so many others want you to belive that staying in a toxic relationship is the fiscally responsible choice.
"World-class morons for even thinking about leaving. Except my buddy Keith." Thanks Brett.
P.S. Alberta's GDP would immediately make it a G30 country.
P.P.S. There are 50+ smaller countries around the World that manage all this already. Think Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Israel, Thailand. We can do this.
