The European Parliament’s negotiation team on air passenger rights confirmed a compromise with EU Member States that preserves the current three-hour delay threshold and maintains existing compensation levels, while adding new protections for travellers.

"The EPP Group promised passengers that their rights will be protected. And we delivered. We fought for people, not statistics. Because behind every delay and every cancellation, there are real lives. The three-hour threshold and compensation levels remain. Families will be seated together without extra fees," said @AndreyNovakov MEP, Parliament’s lead negotiator on air passenger rights.

After 13 long years of negotiations, we have reached a successful landing zone.

I am proud that @Europarl_EN has secured a deal that will significantly strengthen air passenger rights while delivering a balanced solution for the industry.

Today’s result would not have been possible without the incredible work of Parliament’s negotiating team, led by Rapporteur @AndreyNovakov and @EP_Transport Vice-Chair @VSinkevicius.

The agreement reached means:
• easier compensation claims
• stronger rights for families and passengers with disabilities
• more transparency on hand luggage charges
• compensation after 3-hour delays

This is a major step forward: making air travel fairer and more transparent, giving airlines greater clarity and predictability, and keeping the sector competitive.
