It feels like I just did CaRMS 21 months ago, and that's because I just did CaRMS 21 months ago. Time flies when you're having fun/starting residency in a pandemic 🤪
Along these lines, give the folks at @EQUIPHealthCare a follow if you think this sort of thing is important. They're doing great work over there. Building the evidence base for interventions like this is critical for translating into improved patient care.
Facilitated a 3 hour discussion on trauma and violence informed care with my co-residents since I last logged in. Such a powerful chat, thankful to have had the opportunity to do so. Shout out to @NadineWathen for finding the time to share her curriculum and expertise with us!
Program evaluation to follow, but my biggest immediate takeaway is that we need more space for things like this in medical education and we have to make this more of a priority. Equity oriented care is good care.
Today, ICUs are on the verge of triage and our hospitals are dealing with a humanitarian crisis.
But Ontario instead chose to send more police to hotspot communities where essential workers live, rather than providing #PaidSickDays & enhanced workplace protections.
#COVID19ON
this is a humanitarian crisis that will only get worse. people in poverty are dying and the policy response is police carding not paid sick leave or housing.
this is now the most damning policy response I have ever seen in my career.
just so that everyone is clear on the public policy lens — Ontario desperately needed a public health/evidence informed response and we got a police state where anyone can be stopped to show their address. this is a human rights calamity none of us could have predicted.
“These restrictions will be strongly enforced”
Translation: we are sending more police to “hot spot” communities because that’s all we know how to do.
#PaidSickDaysSaveLives
If the Ontario government cared about saving lives, they would take the necessary steps to do that.
More policing will not stop essential workers from getting sick at work.
We are being gaslighted.
Paid. Sick. Leave. Now.
#COVID19ON
super cool that the Ontario government saw that Covid disproportionately affects low-income, racialized people and decided the solution was to criminalize them for it
