Elon Musk was asked by a teenager at a public event what he should study in school to be like Elon when he grows up.

He said "don't try to be like me. I'm not happy."

The audience laughed nervously. Elon didn't laugh. He let the silence sit for a moment then continued. He said the things that make him effective at building companies are the same things that make him terrible at being a person. The obsession that produces rockets destroys relationships. The work ethic that saves companies ruins health. The focus that solves impossible problems blinds him to the simple ones happening in his own house.

He told the teenager that the version of success the world sees is real but incomplete. The rockets are real. The loneliness is also real. The wealth is real. The inability to sit still for five minutes without feeling like something is being wasted is also real. Both exist in the same person at the same time and he's not sure the trade was worth it.

He said if the teenager wants to build things that matter he should do it. But he should do it with his eyes open. Knowing the cost isn't hypothetical. It's specific. It's every birthday he missed. Every relationship he watched dissolve. Every morning he woke up and felt the weight of his own choices pressing down before his feet hit the floor.

The teenager asked a question about success. Elon answered with a warning. And the warning was more valuable than any success story because it came from the only person qualified to give it. The man living inside the answer.

How different is it the second time around?

The difference is incomparable.

President @realDonaldTrump’s first Administration was being subverted daily at the highest levels. That included even inside the @WhiteHouse itself with saboteurs like Chief-of-Staff John Kelly believing they had a right to undermine the will of the America people. They didn’t.

Now the traitors are stuck on the outside, forced to testify before Congress, taking the Fifth 101 times to hide their deep culpability.

Instead these men and women stepped into the arena to brave the calumny and the actual threats, to move federal government back into the service of the American People.

The debate on the right begins with a false choice:

Either you leave your Christianity at the door, or you force it down everyone else’s throats.

Reject both.

We are not commanded to hide our Christian worldview. We take it everywhere because it shapes who we are, how we think, how we live, how we vote, how we govern, and how we treat other people.

But we don’t demean people of other faiths, subjugate them, or use the state to force them into fake conformity.

We are commanded to go and make disciples.

We are commanded to speak the truth.

We are commanded to preach the Gospel, teach obedience, seek the welfare of the nation, defend justice, and love our neighbors.

And we are commanded to do those things using the tools Christ gave us: truth, persuasion, teaching, discipleship, example, sacrifice, and the work of the Holy Spirit.

So no, you do not leave your Christianity at the door. It’s who you are and you should be proud of it and you should be proclaiming it in the public square.

But if your answer to disagreement is that the state must compel people because persuasion takes too long, then perhaps the problem is not that Christianity is too weak.

Perhaps the problem is that you just don’t understand it.

Matthew 25 is not a command for the government to create a welfare state. It is a command to Christ’s followers. The government is not an individual with a soul made in the image of God. It’s a bureaucratic institution.

One of the biggest mistakes Christians make is confusing the role of the Church with the role of the state.

Jesus’ command in Matthew 25 is directed to His followers not to Caesar.

God gave the civil government a specific responsibility: to uphold justice, restrain evil, punish wrongdoing, and preserve civil order (Romans 13:1–7). Government exists to protect life, liberty, and peace so that people can live together under the rule of law.

But God gave the Church a different mission.

Feeding the hungry. Rehabilitating prisoners. Caring for widows and orphans. Comforting the sick. Loving our neighbors. Showing hospitality to strangers. Bearing one another’s burdens. Those are not responsibilities we can outsource to the state.

A government cannot love your neighbor for you. It also cannot spread the gospel or evangelize for you or repent. That’s on you.

Christians may reasonably disagree about the appropriate scope of government assistance for the poor. But Matthew 25 has zero to do with the government.

The New Testament consistently gives commands like “feed the hungry,” “care for widows,” “visit prisoners,” and “love your neighbor” to the Church and to individual believers. But not to the civil government.

Christians don’t outsource obedience to the state.

Christ never once commanded the Roman government or the Roman civil authorities to do anything.
