On the afternoon of June 19, 2026, three members of the same family were struck by a landmine explosion while searching for vegetables near their plantation in Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region. One woman was killed and two others were injured, according to local sources.
The victims were from Lae Taung Yar Village. They had gone into a forested area near their plantation to gather vegetables during the rainy season when the landmine exploded.
“They said it happened a short distance from their home. Because it is the rainy season, they had gone to collect vegetables. The mother was the one who stepped on the mine. Among the two injured people, the young woman suffered more serious injuries,” said a local source familiar with the incident.
Daw Kyu Kyu Khine, 36, was killed in the explosion. Her son, Maung Hein Htet Aung, 15, sustained shrapnel injuries across his body, while her niece, Ma Nan Maw Lin, 22, suffered a severe injury to her left hand.
The two injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Tanintharyi Township Public Hospital. According to local sources, their injuries are not considered life-threatening. It has not yet been confirmed which armed group planted the landmine. However, local residents said that military Junta forces have been active in the area.
