@RetroRepairer@marty_friedman Thank you! When I take people on tours around Kyoto, I always make a point to tell them that the shrines and temples we visit are not tourist attractions, but "living places of worship".
It's sad how many people don't know that.
@marty_friedman I have been a tourist multiple times in Japan and have noticed the behaviour of other tourists worsening. Whenever I can, I call out these egregious behaviours in a direct, polite, and deadpan way. People don't expect to be confronted, and they usually stop. It's not cool.
Dear tourists: PLEASE STOP DOING THIS. Japan is known for gracefully welcoming foreigners, but those days will end if you continue this disrespect. You are leaving an extremely shameful impression of your entire country. Who raised you to act this way? Just stop. Thank you.
