One interesting event I learned about was how President Reagan had been secretly selling weapons to Iran through other countries in order to gain a profit to essentially support Nicaragua (A New World). @cposkozim
Death, incrimination, violence and substance abuse only rose up increasingly in the Ghettos. Likewise, legally, Reagonamics put a stop to inflation. It’s effect: The Roaring 80’s. @cposkozim
Learning about the Vietnam Project was very interesting because of how much it meant to the families of the Veterans but also because the names on the wall was not only of those who sacrificed their lives but also the names of the survivors. @cposkozim
The Uranian Students held many of the officials from the US embassy in Tehran because of the Iran hatred demonstrated for the US media. This was intended for the return of the Shah to Tehran for trial (Starting Over). @cposkozim
Environmentally, Loius Gibbs & her neighbors because with their efforts to strike, they made their voices hears & finally, toxic cleanup, a national issue! @cposkozim
Much of the women "abandoned their roles as housewives for paying jobs" which goes to show why many-more than half of the marriages- ended in divorce; women weren't as submissive as they were in the past (Starting Over). @cposkozim
I found the Human Genome Project interesting in particular because in 2013 alone, more than 3 billion genes were identified!! This was partly because of all the funding that helped scientists to expand their research. @cposkozim
I didn’t know it was suggested to congress to impeach Clinton after his scandal with Monica Lewinsky which is something I found interesting because it’s like something we’d see in a tv show. However, Clinton ended up being more popular than he started out with. @cposkozim
I really found the fact that the Strategic Defense Initiative was similarly known as “Star Wars” which I’m not sure many people in our society are aware of!! The connection between the movies & the real life reasoning behind it is very interesting. @cposkozim
Bettie Fidan published the Femine Mystique which spread the idea that women at that time felt like they were judged and “alone if they wanted to be more than their husbands wife.” @cposkozim
Kathrine Switzer had the determination to finish the race in 4 hours and 20 minutes which symbolized the strength women have and how empowering they are even within athletics. @cposkozim
@gsmendoza1 I also agree! Racism was influencing society just because. There was no actual reasoning behind it, it was just hate formed on the basis on differences that Whites gained from because most saw themselves as superior.
@gsmendoza1 I also talked about this quote because it just goes to show how segregation went against what America was supposed to stand for for all Americans, disregarding their race or color or any other factor.
It’s unbelievable how the police didn’t protect the students during their sit in but the students’ unity kept them strong through the violence. #MEEyesonthePrize18 @cposkozim
I can’t imagine how the 9 African American children must’ve felt going into a school that was forced to integrate students of color but then repealed because of the White resistance to change and surging hate. #MEEyesonthePrize18 @cposkozim
Martin Luther King calls out during one of his speeches how segregation is against what the constitution is saying as well as what God is saying & he’s not wrong. #MEEyesonthePrize18 @cposkozim
The courage Rosa Parks has to stand up against the officers who tried to continue segregation on the bus just amazes me because it was incredibly difficult to do so especially in times like those. #MEEyesonthePrize18 @cposkozim
