I used to envy the pride with which Americans spoke about their country. Now I get to watch ama2K champion patriotism onto the global stage.
Maybe we have always been this patriotic, but the story was contained. Social media simply opened the floodgates and amplified it. Angazi. But what I do know is: kumnandi ukuba la. ๐ฟ๐ฆ
Mfundo Vilakazi โค๏ธโ๐พ
The boy started 2 games out of 3 and already has 1 assist and 4 chances created. While some senior players were gifting the opposition easy goals, Vilakazi was leading the line with attempts at goal, trying to get us back into the game.
Yet instead of questioning senior players who are reverting to their old weaknesses, and costing us games, people want to target growing youngsters who are having a positive impact.
Against Richards Bay, we were playing without a proper point of reference. There was no clear 9, but Vilakazi still managed to find positions where he could get shots away. No player hit the target more than him, It was Vilakaziโs dribbling and combination play that gave us the penalty Maboe scored to draw level, that's a positive but we must listen to people judging him as poor because he didn't score.
If his performance is only considered positive when he scores or assists, then we aren't really analysing football with football people, we're just judging players by the scoreboard and betway slips. No football sense to it.
And next week, Faiz Abrahams will make a mistake or fail to meet someone's unrealistic standards, and he'll be the next youngster targeted.
People need to understand that no player will have a perfect game, especially when the standards are only applied when it suits the argument.
We can lose. We can draw. We can have a poor performance.
But you don't have to blame Vilakazi and Shabalala simply because they played.

Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit Hope FC and Luxor South Africa have unveiled the club's new 2026/27 Home Jersey.
I look at the Kaizer Chiefs DDC generation of Duba, Zwane, Radebe, Mdu, Blom, Ngezana, Puso, Mdaka, Vilakazi just to name a few and Iโm thinking, Carlos Alberto Parreira with Ted Dimitru ๐๏ธjust to name a few deserve their flowers for planting a seed that bridged the gap between amateur ranks to professional. Those players transitioned from boys to young men and they doing well for themselves all thanks to the development structure we now have in the country.
I am absolutely all in on Olwethu Makhanya ๐ฟ๐ฆ
Clear man of the match tonight - he was the only player with over 100 touches, plus 98% passing accuracy, won 100% of his duels and made eight recoveries in the match.
The guy is only 22!
The recruitment department at Rangers gets a lot of (understandable) criticism, but what a find he could turn out to be ๐
