Just the bottom five supers are filled with honey. I only put the top BB on today - that’s for next years’ drawn comb. I’m tweeting this as if I had anything at all to do with it - just a bystander really.

Hi Folks, not long now to our Open Day. Come along, get some tea and cake and learn about bees, honeybees and beekeeping.

An aspect of beekeeping they don’t tell you about - mowing the apiary. A bit scruffy but as close as I could get to the hives with a bulky mower. Tomorrow, dealing with an overstuffed nuc.

I reckon it was the better weather (mild rather than cold and wet) coming out of winter this year. That and the Qs are a year older so swarmed more readily.

Last year we were struggling to have enough colonies. What a difference a year makes.

Swarms end up so often in the same tree I might get a staircase built.

SWARM MONDAY: in apiary this a.m. Casually looking around found swarm up usual tree. Recovered it. Meanwhile another swarm issued from different hive but returned. Hmmm, need to look at QC policy.

Lovely to see the crocus and snowdrops flowering. Important early pollen source.
