Just the bottom five supers are filled with honey. I only put the top BB on today - that’s for next years’ drawn comb. I’m tweeting this as if I had anything at all to do with it - just a bystander really.
Heard a virgin tooting today but I didn't have the presence of mind to record it. It's one of the lesser known methods of communications amongst honey bees. Here's a fascinating article about it https://t.co/uNWORCahl1
An aspect of beekeeping they don’t tell you about - mowing the apiary. A bit scruffy but as close as I could get to the hives with a bulky mower. Tomorrow, dealing with an overstuffed nuc.
I reckon it was the better weather (mild rather than cold and wet) coming out of winter this year. That and the Qs are a year older so swarmed more readily.
SWARM MONDAY: in apiary this a.m. Casually looking around found swarm up usual tree. Recovered it. Meanwhile another swarm issued from different hive but returned. Hmmm, need to look at QC policy.
