This is your legacy on the occupied Palestinian territory, Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. History will remember your complicity.
Despite a partial arms suspension in 2024, Keir Starmer's government has continued to enable Israel's atrocities against Palestinians, their families and children through the supply of F-35 fighter jet parts.
Nothing can change the horrors Palestinians have faced. But the next Prime Minister has an opportunity to put an end to the UK Government's role as an ally to atrocities.
The UK Government must:
🔴 Suspend all arms sales to Israel
🔴 Suspend the UK-Israel trade and partnership agreement
🔴 Ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements
To the next Prime Minister: what will your plaque say?
April: 'israel' issues first official command to the UK to proscribe a group— IRGC.
Yesterday: UK complies.
While lobbies pushed for years, this is a shift from 'israel' pretending bans are a 'British domestic matter' to open foreign intervention, bypassing British sovereignty.
The main public advocates pushing for proscribing the IRGC have been the **Board of Deputies of British Jews** and the **Jewish Leadership Council**. They’ve campaigned for years, met ministers (including the Foreign Secretary), and repeatedly called for it citing IRGC-linked threats, assassinations plots, and intimidation on UK soil.
Think tanks like the **Henry Jackson Society** published detailed reports making the case. There was also consistent pressure from some Conservative MPs and Iranian opposition voices.
The government’s move today uses new National Security (State Threats) powers rather than classic Terrorism Act proscription.
This is who lobbied the British government to ban the IRGC:
- Jewish Leadership Council (JLC)
-Board of Deputies of British Jews
- Campaign Against Antisemitism(CAA)
- We Believe Alliance (merging We Believe in Israel and National Jewish Assembly)
- Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis
- Conservative & Labour Friends of 'israel'
The British public voted for none of these subversive foreign agents.
To the best of my knowledge I have never met a member of the IRGC. Neither expressed “a positive opinion” about them. An English woman named Shabana Mahmood has just made it punishable by 14 years in prison so to do so as a free-born Scotsman I will have to reconsider that. So far as I’m aware - as a UK legislator across five decades - this is the first time I have been explicitly told that I can go to prison literally for my opinion. For those of you cheering, remember, it will be your opinion next.
This is infuriating crap.
He says:
“There's increasing evidence that war crimes appear to have been committed.”
He knows Israel has committed war crimes on an industrial scale.
He’s refusing to say so because it would impose legal obligations on him to actually act.
A rocket hasn't been fired from Gaza in 18 months. And Hamas has handed administrative control over to a technocratic interim committee. Yet the apartheid state continues killing children daily. Almost as if it's a holocaust and not a war
Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis, who’s son serves in the israeli army, is trying to block the Church of England’s report on the genocide in Gaza https://t.co/MHq83QXres
They killed him because he had prepared areas that were full of garbage, cleaned them up, and set up a large screen and chairs, making the area suitable so that the people of Gaza could watch the Egypt-Argentina match, to have some joy, to be like the people of the rest of the world. However, the occupation refused this and assassinated him.
Ahead of today's game, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan appealed to the world to "let the Palestinian people live." Israel responds by killing the head of public relations for the Egyptian Relief Committee in Gaza:
Activists built a water station providing clean drinking water to Palestinians.
He posts about it's launch on X.
One hour later Israel bombs it, killing the workers.
Scandalous.
18 months in arbitrary detention. No charge. No evidence. Torture attested by his lawyer, marks visible on his body.
And instead of covering this, @BBC amplifies Israel's unproven claims casting doubt on a hostage doctor.
>BBC's journalism in the time of genocide.
Why are you conflating Israel with Jews, @NJ_Timothy? Isn't that a clear violation of the IHRA definition of antisemitism that you support?
Also, as a non-Jew, what do you say to an Israeli Jewish scholar of the Holocaust, Prof @bartov_omer, who says it is a genocide in Gaza?
I would urge Nick Robinson to read this & respond as to why none of this was effectively addressed by him in the interview he undertook with Morgan McSweeney. The right thing for him to do now would be to interview in depth Paul Holden. @bbcnickrobinson
Honestly, the BBC is an absolute disgrace - first they interview and whitewash Mandelson and now, even worse, McSweeney.
This is not journalism by any stretch of the imagination.
Nick Robinson -- what a hill to die on.
Left: Lisa Nandy complains about a lack of regulation on social media
Right: Lisa Nandy quitting Twitter because of a lack of regulation on social media
Your reminder that it's been Lisa Nandy's job for two years to regulate social media
Instead of doing her job, she's quitting Twitter
And as a minister, on top of her MPs salary of £91,346 per year, Lisa Nandy gets paid a ministerial salary of £67,505
So far Lisa Nandy has got £135,010 from the taxpayer for not doing her job of regulating social media
14 years of complaining of Conservative incompetence, and here's Labour doing the same
