Built around 1870, this building housed Brocato's Sicilian ice cream parlor with glazed tile walls and marble tables. Patented his signature Akeno gelato in 1929. Now Croissant d'Or Patisserie since 1983.

Completed in 1935, this concrete demonstration house by architect August Perez Jr. featured sweeping steel windows and innovative hollow-ribbed walls, built in just three months for $10,200.

Built 1926-27 by architect William Richard Burk, this Spanish Colonial Revival church features an exuberant sculptural façade. Its hand-carved Carrara marble Stations of the Cross (1947) are among Louisiana's finest.

FRIDAY FROM THE ARCHIVES | BONNET CARRÉ SPILLWAY

Authorized in 1928 and built 1929-1931 in response to the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, this massive diversion system protects New Orleans. Its 350 concrete bays control water flow into Lake Pontchartrain, first opened in 1937.

Congratulations to Allyson Hinz (MSHP *25) and Karina Roca (MSHP *26) on being honored by the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation! Allyson received the Sue Turner Preservationist of the Year Award and Karina the Living Trades Award.
