Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a false claim in his testimony to the House on Wednesday. Then he repeated it in his testimony to the Senate on Thursday.
Hegseth said Wednesday: āIn 2024, troops were depl⦠ā that was Joe Biden by the way, Joe Biden āĀ were deployed to polling locations in 15 states." He continued, "2024 ā Joe Biden ā troops deployed to polling locations in 15 states. Explain that one to me.ā
Hereās the explanation: Hegsethās claim isn't true.
Not only were all National Guard activations for the 2024 election done by individual states rather than Biden, all 11 states that responded to my inquiries said *no troops* there were sent to polling places.
Rather, they said, Guard personnel were in other locations helping with election cybersecurity, doing other behind-the-scenesĀ support work, or not actually activated for the election after all.

Factual information on the CDC website, stating studies have shown there's no link between vaccines and autism, was replaced yesterday with inaccurate anti-vaccine talking points. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is a longtime anti-vaccine activist. https://t.co/hplaAXSal5
In the past week alone, President Trump has accused Democrats of lying that prices are up, though Trump is lying that prices are down, and accused his former FBI director of lying about Jan. 6, though it is Trump who is pushing the false conspiracy theory: https://t.co/JPMGKFVvPl
The presidentās claims about Portland - that itās burning down, on fire, has no or few stores, does not use glass anymore - are just detached from reality, regardless of whatās going on any given day with the protest situation around one ICE building on one block.
The presidentās claim that āPortland is burning to the ground is extremely false, like one of the wrongest things of all the wrong things he has said this year.
President Trumpās speech to the UN was one of those āwhere do you even startā addresses from a fact-check perspective. Hereās a non-comprehensive look at some of his claims:
Inflation hasn't been "defeated" by Trump; it's been rising since the spring and is now, at 2.9%, just shy of the 3.0% from when he returned to office in January, when he says he inherited an āeconomic calamity.ā
US electricity bills arenāt ācoming way downā; theyāre spiking, rising at double the rate of overall inflation. Grocery prices aren't "downā either; they're up during this presidency and they jumped last month at the fastest pace since 2022.
Trump didn't end a āragingā war between Egypt and Ethiopia because the two countries were not in a war at all; theyāre in an argument over a dam that is ongoing. Heās previously claimed he stopped Serbia and Kosovo from starting a new war, not that he resolved an existing war, which makes more sense because they werenāt at war under Trump, either. And the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo hasnāt ended despite the Trump administration-brokered June peace deal, which, critically, didnāt involve the rebel coalition doing the fighting.
Trumpās current poll numbers arenāt close to his highest ever. Trumpās ā$17 trillionā investment figure is $8 trillion higher than the figure his own press secretary used *yesterday.* President Biden didnāt let in 25 million migrants. Biden didnāt lose 300,000 kids.
Global warming isnāt a āhoax.ā Scientists havenāt ceased using the phrase āglobal warming.ā Coal isnāt āclean.ā The US didnāt have to pay ā$1 trillionā under the Paris climate accord. That the wind sometimes doesnāt blow doesnāt make wind power useless; batteries exist, and wind is used as part of a mix of power sources. China doesnāt ābarelyā use wind energy; in fact itās by far the worldās leading user of wind power, and itās rapidly building more domestic capacity.

President Trump keeps repeating debunked lies. Hereās a fact check of 10 he repeated in the last week alone.
There canāt possibly be a 1,500% reduction in drug prices. The US hasnāt sent Ukraine $350 billion in wartime aid. Trumpās dam-opening in January didnāt send extra water to Los Angeles (and Californiaās water flows arenāt controlled by a single āvalveā). The US is far from the only country that uses mail-in ballots. There is inflation in the United States. There hasnāt been $1.99 gas anywhere in the US when Trump has claimed there has been. Trump didnāt sign any law giving automatic 10-year sentences to monument vandals. Biden was the legitimate winner of the 2020 election. Biden didnāt let South Korea stop covering part of the cost of the US military presence there. A camera didnāt catch Gov. Wes Moore calling Trump āthe greatest presidentā; it caught Trump lying about this. https://t.co/lF6XT6HLmY
No, states don't have to run elections how the president "tells" them to. No, the US isn't "the only Country in the World that uses Mail-In Voting." No, mail-in voting doesn't make elections fraudulent.

The FBI is knocking down two fake videos circulating online claiming that the FBI issued warnings about terrorist threats at polling sites and reports of voting in swing state prisons were fabricated, the agency said in a statement.
1: The first is a fabricated newsclip purporting to be a terrorist warning issued by the FBI. The fabricated newsclip reports falsely that the FBI purportedly stated that Americans should āvote remotelyā due to a high terror threat at polling stations. This video is not authentic and does not accurately represent the current threat posture or polling location safety,ā the FBI said in a statement.
We ran an article Friday about how the Trump campaign has made a habit of deceptively using quotes in its TV ads, cutting out words and taking stuff way out of context.
Then the campaign released the most egregious example yet. Here's a thread on deceptive quotes in its new ad.
