With Paddy's guidance, we titled the piece "Golden Gate Medley," which contains at least 9 different tunes. This sample is from a duo of fiddle reels by Sean Keane. We couldn't identify the first reel, but Paddy suggested we call it “Steam Packet Selections." And so we did.
When Jerry Garcia invites @thechieftains to open Old & In the Way, he is reuniting 2 musical traditions separated by an ocean and centuries of transmigration: bluegrass and it’s Irish progenitor. But neither act made the crossing on that night in 1973! (Thread below). ❤️🐻
Plus African musical traditions, supplanted the pipes in Celtic music. In the attached snippet, you can hear some of the way the fiddle forms that bridge -- it's an excerpt from a beautiful piece of improvisation on the upcoming Chieftains' Chapter of Bear's Sonic Journals.
