In July 2024, scientists reunited in Bremen, Germany for the #EXP401 sampling party. Over a week, they collected nearly 16,000 samples to bring back to their home labs for study.
To learn more about why they needed SO MANY samples, watch the full video at https://t.co/Y74AygWUmt
The #EXP401 science team is making great progress in Bremen with one hole complete! Thousands of samples done, thousands more to go.

As of yesterday, the last core of Expedition 401 has been described! Congrats to the teams that have spent the past 2-months working their way through hundreds of cores.
3 days to our final destination of the expedition, Naples, Italy.

#EXP401 had its last core last night, but it was also the last core for this science tech crew. With the IODP JOIDES Resolution contract expiring in September, this crew won't sail on another JR coring expedition.
Here's to all the science they've made possible.

We have seen a lot of mud and nice trace fossils in cores from the first site! Each photo is ~ 6.5 cm wide. We are expecting to see more (and coarser) turbidities/contourites at the next site. @TheJR@IMMAGEland2sea#iodp#Exp401
Hey #AGU23 attendees! Join us tomorrow at Booth 1033 for a live ship-to-shore connection. Tour the JOIDES Resolution and learn all about #EXP401.

Scientific ocean drilling folks! Please consider signing and sharing our letter to @NSF detailing why we need concrete commitments now to support our field given the rapidly approaching retirement of @TheJR@AcademicChatter@JRSO_IODP

The IMMAGE science team is together at @BristolUni!
This group traveled from around the world to plan for the IMMAGE project which will investigate the Miocene Mediterranean-Atlantic exchange on land and at sea.
@KBYip Very nice capture! Could you comment more on the source(s) of the sand? Is the sand mostly of detrital particles (if so, where are they from) or biogenic particles?
(1/6) It’s #FollowFriday! Can you help us get to 10,000 followers? Show NSF how important the JOIDES Resolution is to science by sharing us with your network. And if they want to know what’s in it for them...?
Could anyone help confirm if this is a dinoflagellate🧐? I haven't paid much attention to them before, but they appear to be a key indicator for paleoproductivity.
