Briahna Joy Gray argues that the political debate over “defund the police” has been deliberately narrowed to whether the phrase is electorally damaging and what the wording means, rather than whether its underlying policy should be defended.
Gray argues that “defund could not be more literal,” and says opponents have succeeded in pushing politicians to debate the phrase instead of explaining or defending their previous support for “defund the police.”
She points to continued growth in police budgets since 2020 and argues that the underlying case for “defunding” is “one of the easiest things to prove and support.”

✨ @hasanthehun sheds some light on Gary, Indiana. Gary has been without power for 10 days and many mainstream outlets have not been covering this story. It's a predominantly Black city, which has a lot to do with the lack of coverage: "Gary, Indiana for the last ten days, has not had any electricity, okay? No power whatsoever. Think about it. It's fucking insane. We don't even talk about in the news. The bosses wanted to ship manufacturing overseas because it was much more cost effective for them; they could justify sky-high profits. Consumers, in exchange for that, would get cheaper consumer goods. Gary, Indiana is 85% Black, which is why it's not being covered at all right now. It used to be a steeltown; home to Gary Works, the longest steel mill complex in North America. That's Gary, Indiana. Now, it's devoid of power for 10 days, and it barely makes a fucking blip on anybody's radar."
Today, we honor the life of Nolan Xavier Wells. He would’ve been 19 today.

@PhillyJoe567@Mike_from_PA They downloaded the audits and not the results. Had to go back to the machines and back to the other location. Kornacki showed the announcement about it.
@BTnewsroom No one should have to be this strong as they face those responsible for killing their child. They wouldn’t even let her hold her baby as she was dying.
The US Deputy Energy Secretary, James Danny, said in Abu Dhabi that their oil reserve is almost empty and now there’s talk of sending troops to Nigeria and setting up a base in Port Harcourt
