In fulfillment of the Government’s Buy Uganda, Build Uganda (BUBU) initiative, the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Karamoja Peace and Technology University (@kapatuniversity) to support the institution’s establishment and operational readiness.
Under this partnership, UPS is producing high-quality office furniture for the University’s main campus currently under construction in Kotido District. The Service will also supply office flags, ceremonial gowns, a University Mace, and other branding instruments that symbolize institutional identity and pride. Adding a cultural dimension, the Mighty Prisons Band—renowned for its musical excellence—has been commissioned to compose the official University Anthem, further cementing the collaboration between the two entities.
During the ceremony at which the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rev. Fr. Callisto Locheng, A.J., was presented to the University staff and key partners, the Commissioner General of Prisons was represented by Ms. Prossy Geraldine Najjuma, Senior Commissioner of Prisons (Industries). It was on this occasion that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formally signed between UPS and KAPATU, marking the beginning of a strong institutional partnership founded on innovation, local capacity building and national development.
These efforts align with the directive of H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, who urged all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to procure furniture and related products from Uganda Prisons Industries as a means of promoting local production and self-reliance. The President is expected to officially preside over the launch of Karamoja Peace and Technology University later this year.
