Just finished ‘Death at the Sign of the Rook’ by Kate Atkinson. #6 in the Jackson Brodie series (it’s been 8 years in the making!). Cozy mystery, very funny, wonderful writing, great character development. Brodie plays a secondary role. Thoroughly enjoyable read!

Just finished ‘The Book of Lost Friends’ by Lisa Wingate. Historical Fiction. Well-written, thought-provoking. Pacing was a bit slow.

Just finished ‘This Is Why We Lied’ by Karin Slaughter. #12 in the Will Trent series; police procedural based in Georgia. Lots of TWs - domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse. Takes place at a remote luxury cabin destination in the mountains. Lots of twists & turns.

DNF - ‘All the Colors of the Dark’ by Chris Whitaker. It’s rare that I don’t finish a book - and the beginning of the book has a lot of promise - but after listening to it for 5+ hours - just couldn’t go on - don’t even care enough to read the ending!

Just finished listening to ‘What Happened to Nina’ by Dervla McTiernan, narrated by 7 people (one for each POV). Not really a thriller - more like a police procedural + family drama. This was really good - fast-paced with lots of twists & turns - finished it in two sittings!

Just finished ‘House of Glass’ by Sarah Pekkanen. Domestic thriller. Overall an enjoyable read with some good plot twists that kept me guessing. Pacing was a bit slow in the middle. Romance thrown in at the end - strange timing & didn’t anything.

Just finished ‘The Paris Widow’ by Kimberly Belle. Suspense thriller delving into the world of blood antiquities. Set in Europe - primarily Paris. Although the plot was fairly implausible — I really enjoyed this one — well-written, fast-paced, lots of twists & turns.

Just finished ‘Return to Wyldcliffe Heights’ by Carol Goodman. Modern Gothic thriller set in Hudson Valley / NY. This was an entertaining read - one of the better novels that this author had published in a while (‘The Lake of Dead Languages’ is still my favorite).

Just finished ‘James’ by Percival Everett. A re-imagining of Huckleberry Finn told from the POV of slave Jim/James. Fantastic read - probably the best thing I’ve read so far this year. It’s an engaging, quick read - but not an easy one.

Just finished ‘Swan Song’ by Elin Hilderbrand (Nantucket #4). The last book in the series. Good beach read — especially when it’s really hot outside and you are nowhere near the ocean 😎.

Just finished listening to ‘Listen for the Lie’ by Amy Tintera. Domestic thriller with an unreliable (and often unlikable) narrator. Every 2nd or 3rd chapter was a podcast (so highly recommend the audible version). Enjoyable read with some good twist & turns.

Just finished ‘The God of the Woods’ by Liz Moore. Set in the Adirondacks. Domestic thriller w/two children from the same family disappearing 14 years apart. Beautifully written (pay attention to the timeline) — excellent plot & character development — lots of twists & turns.

Just finished ‘The Burning’ by Linda Castillo (#16, Kate Burkholder) Police procedural set in rural Amish Ohio. One of my favorite series - consistently a good read. This one didn’t disappoint - fast-paced & engaging. Only complaint - lots of loose threads left at end.

Just finished ‘A Death in Cornwall’ (Gabriel Allon #24) by Daniel Silva. One of my favorite authors and one of my favorite series. I am glad this one focuses mostly on the art world. Avlittle slow moving to start - but fortunately it picks up and doesn’t stop.

Just finished listening to Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein. Nonfiction. A trip into the mirror world. Dense subjects. Mostly found it very thought-provoking. Some bits didn’t quite fit together. Beautiful writing.

Just finished listening to ‘Cat & Vivian’ by Amanda Eyre Ward. A psychological thriller novella set in South Carolina. This one starts off really strong and then just kind of peters out. A lot of people will hate the ending.

Just finished ‘A Game of Lies’ by Clare Mackintosh. A cozy, police procedural set in North Wales (#2 in the series). I like this one better than the first in the series - but like many of her other books more. Interesting plot — but not enough twists & turns.

Just finished listening to ‘My Name is Barbra’ written & narrated by Barbra Streisand. Whew! this was a long one — 48 hours! Barbra is an amazing talent - she’s also a control freak & has quite the ego. I am glad I listened to this one - great singing clips and outtakes.

Just finished ‘How to Solve your Own Murder’ by Kristen Perrin. A cozy murder mystery set outside of London. The story is told through two POVs / two timeframes. A very fun read. I think if you liked the movie ‘Knives Out’ that you would enjoy this too.

Just finished ‘Murder Road’ by Simone St James. Paranormal thriller. If you like ghost stories - this one is a pretty good read (not my favorite though from this author).
