District families, we encourage you to reach out to Mrs. Smith and kindly inform her that Texas parents have rights. It would be nice if so many schools weren’t blatantly misinforming the public.

President Trump signed a new Executive Order today, moving federal vaccine policy toward greater parental choice, informed consent, vaccine safety, and flexibility. That’s progress we welcome.

But the EO does not change the Texas laws that allow certain Texans to be subjected to vaccine mandates, nor does it eliminate state-level vaccine requirements.

Federal policy can move in the right direction, but Texas law still needs to change. Until every Texan has the freedom to make informed medical decisions without facing discrimination or losing access to education and employment, we have work to do.

We now have a sitting US President that is open to reevaluating the childhood shot schedule and is openly calling for informed consent.

While @forneyisd doesn’t clearly explain that an exemption also fulfills the immunization record requirement, they are following current state law, which requires schools to provide a link to the DSHS website. That website does mention the exemption option—but families shouldn’t have to go on a wild goose chase to find important information about their rights.

At TFVC, we believe families deserve better. If a school is going to tell parents about immunization requirements, it should also clearly explain the available exemption options.

That’s why we’ll keep working to improve the law and make sure families have the information they need, right when they need it. No digging. No guessing. No unnecessary runaround. Just clear, straightforward information about their rights and options.

The word “require” is used by ISDs often when mentioning immunizations for school enrollment. We see this debated time and time again online so we thought we would take this opportunity to explain the law in detail. 

The Texas Administrative Code does, in fact, have a section titled, “IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS IN TEXAS ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION”. However, (TAC) Rule §97.62 reads: Exclusions from compliance are allowable on an individual basis for medical contraindications, reasons of conscience, including a religious belief, and active duty with the armed forces of the United States. 

The rule, linked below, goes on to explain how those exclusions may be claimed. The most common option is the State Vaccination Exemption Affidavit which is free and downloadable from our website.

Now, just because there are “requirements” does that mean Malakoff ISD and other districts should refrain from mentioning the full extent of the law and mislead families into believing that vaccination is the only option for school enrollment? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Texas parents have rights, and Texas parents call the shots!

The staff at @PorterSpartans says they’re here to help. We just have one question: Can they help with informing parents of their rights? This is probably the most aggressive push we have seen in our many years of bringing this type of coercion to light. Students are threatened with being unenrolled for not being vaccinated over and over again on the school’s social media accounts. That is not helpful at all, PHS.
