It has been 158 years since the last African American slave was granted freedom in Texas. However, we still recognize discrimination and bias still exist. Today and everyday we work toward everyone being able to enjoy same freedoms. #Juneteenth

Two Bobcats, @josh_emann and @awklauryn, are on a business trip to the #BSASummit. They will have the opportunity to learn from and network with student-athletes from across the country. We are excited for them to share ideas for TXST to continue to grow.

It was so great honouring Dr. Johnny E. Brown during halftime of today’s @TXStateMBB game. In 1967, he was the first black student athlete to attend and to play for @txst. His wife and daughter are also @txstatealumni! I loved spending time with them - such a gracious family.🐾

Dr. Johnny E. Brown was the first Black student-athlete at @TxStateBobcats. He went on to a distinguished career as a public school educator, administrator and superintendent.

This Black History Month, we are continuing the march for Racial Equality by remembering our past.
"In his day, [Martin Luther King Jr.] was a controversial figure, but now in hindsight, we recognize him for what he has done for the United States…and for marginalized groups."
On the first day of Black History Month, we honor our university's first Black athlete, Dr. Johnny Brown, who played basketball from 1966-69.
In 2020, CORE was created in his name to foster an inclusive culture in Texas State Athletics.
