🧵This is the letter the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities sent Canada on February 3, 2021, voicing concerns on #BillC7, the expansion of MAID access. It can be found here as well. https://t.co/a9h7vUOGEM
ok. Let's hear it. Because there's a pattern now, reasonably well formed, and it ain't pretty.
That's about what someone on #ODSP gets a year for housing, food, meds, transportation and any other life expenses.
Earlier this summer he said that previous climate goals were unrealistic and that we were going to abandon them and raise our emissions. He's also trying to build multiple pipelines. It's insane how two faced he is and how eagerly his cult laps up his bullshit and lies.
This should not be celebrated.
The federal program Canada Disability Benefit violates multiple rights.
One being the red tape on access, namely the pre-requisite of Disability Tax Credit (DTC). A separate program with a complex medical application & an out of pocket cost.

NEW: We’ve obtained a leaked script for a taxpayer-funded advertisement that takes aim at teacher unions, as contract talks grind to a halt.
The draft script portrays parents criticizing unions over sick days & potential strikes.
The Ford government is defending the approach, arguing unions themselves have been running ads and campaigns for well over a year.

@JakeLandauTO I wouldn't count on a basic income from a government that pretty much told poor disabled people "if we give you more than a couple hundred a month you won't get a job".
Donald Trump's trade war has been a gift to Canada's right wing politicians and business interests because it's created a ready-made pretext for them to do all the stuff they wanted to do anyway under the auspices of "protecting the economy."
ICYMI: @fordnation spent more on organic grass-fed beef for one event than people on ODSP are expected to live on for an entire year.
This is one of the primary drivers of homelessness in the province - in Niagara 98% of unhoused people receive OW/ODSP/OAP.

@sqareheaddoug@theresemacdona6@fordnation Info on the bidding process was released, with Ford though it's safe to assume it was slanted to get his desired result. https://t.co/uzupFeE1eW
We now know teachers will be using their $750 classroom supply cards at Staples Canada, after the company was awarded the Ford government’s single-vendor contract.
Supply Ontario says eight bids were received, with Staples ranking first overall and submitting the lowest evaluated price.
Here’s their full reasoning:
Reminder: Ontario has the worst completion rate for criminal charges in the country.
Only 40% result in a trial, guilty plea, etc.
Meanwhile 80% of people in jails are factually innocent and being held awaiting trial.
The issue isn't bail @fordnation.

The single biggest expense is the Vaughan-Woodbridge riding association’s $47,200 annual payment to Venu Event Space (whose well-connected owner is Doug Ford’s daughter’s father-in-law) #onpoli
They are eating like kings while we all cut meats and pay their bills. Everywhere across this land, the elected are serving themselves the biggest buffet you can imagine to themselves. 🪶Land Back
@liberal_party The Budget that put the dental plan into force was the same budget that the @liberal_party and the @ndp under @theJagmeetSingh, now lead by @avilewis voted to approve a $200/m restricted BY the Disability Tax Credit, so that CPP-D recipients aren't even included.
FIX THIS NOW!
@JakeLandauTO While it's refreshing that Liberals have stopped pretending to care about climate, worker's rights, other basic decencies, it's discouraging that most of their supporters did the same thing.
Oh well. Things weren't gonna get better anyway.
