🏆 The @UamPlab team, led by Dr. Hab. Dorota Raczyńska, has received the Prof. W. Krzyżosiak Award of the @PAN_akademia Committee on Cell and Molecular Biology for their publication titled
“Novel function of U7 snRNA in the repression of HERV1/LTR12s and lincRNAs in human cells” (Nucleic Acids Research, 2024).

📑 In the awarded study, the researchers demonstrated that the small nuclear RNA U7 (U7 snRNA), previously known mainly for its role in histone pre-mRNA maturation, also plays a previously unrecognized role in repressing the expression of a subset of long terminal repeats of human endogenous retroviruses (HERV1/LTR12s) as well as long non-coding RNAs containing LTR12 sequences.
🧐 These findings point to a broader significance of U7 snRNA in maintaining genome stability and regulating transcriptional activity.

ℹ️ The Prof. Włodzimierz Krzyżosiak Award is granted annually for the best experimental study on nucleic acids conducted in a Polish laboratory. The award ceremony and a seminar dedicated to the winning publication took place on October 16, 2025, at @UMK_Torun.
