The difference was it was by intent. The Spanish were intentionally trying to create a new class to replace the pagan indians. In short they were practicing their own human modifaction programs which was in line with the intentional spreading of Catholicism. While the N. Euros who were mostly Prots didn't feel the need to evangelize and spread their religion in the same way. So they also didn't see the need to breed new class of pagans to accept Protestantism.

Okay. Maybe, just maybe, he legitimately rethought his posititon. But why? He openly admits he horrified the people around him with his knee jerk beliefs. Was that his motivator to rethink? Either way, going forward I hope he understands that no one will ever trust him again. And he's just got to accept that in his future relationships. That anyone who's known him will fundamentally distrust him.
