In the event of a loss on properties acquired through illicit activities, it would be prudent for SARS to conduct thorough investigations into individuals who were unlawfully present in South Africa and subsequently claim to have acquired properties within the country. It is crucial to ascertain how these individuals were paying taxes and other relevant obligations, given their illegal status.
