The Road to Housing Act is now law, marking one of the most significant advancements in expanding housing opportunities and strengthening communities across America.
As Mayor of Union City, Georgia, I am deeply grateful to have worked alongside fellow mayors and leaders across our nation in support of this monumental legislation. Having had the privilege of serving as Past President of the National League of Cities, Past President of the Georgia Municipal Association, and Past Chair of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Board of Directors, while continuing to serve on the Boards of Directors of the National League of Cities, the Georgia Municipal Association, and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, I have witnessed firsthand what is possible when local, state, and federal leaders unite around a common purpose.
Housing is more than a place to live, it is the foundation of opportunity, economic mobility, stronger families, thriving neighborhoods, and generational wealth.
Here in Union City, our commitment remains steadfast through our R3 vision: Reclaim, Renew, and Reimagine. We will continue reclaiming opportunity, renewing neighborhoods, and reimagining what is possible so every resident has the opportunity to thrive.
This historic achievement belongs to everyone who believed that housing should be within reach for every American. Today we celebrate this landmark moment. Tomorrow, we continue the work, building stronger communities, expanding the American Dream, and leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
As our nation approaches the celebration of America's 250th birthday, this new law reminds us that each generation has a responsibility to leave our communities stronger than we found them. Together, we are helping build the next chapter of the American story, one where opportunity begins with a place to call home. Congratulations to the countless mayors, municipal leaders, housing advocates, community partners, and members of Congress whose vision and perseverance made this day possible. Together, we have demonstrated that when leaders work across every level of government, transformational change is not only possible,it is achievable. Onward, together.
