Later will come the equipment for measuring and transmitting data. We hope this will contribute to the improvement of the knowledge of meteorology and climate in this part of the world in the context of climate change. Thanks everyone! 4/4 @amadouga@BelenRFonseca@LuisDurMon
This week we have taken the next step forward for a new UCAdMet climate observatory in an exceptional location: Isle Serpent. This is thanks to the long and strong collaboration between LPAOSF group (@esp_dakar,@UCAD_Senegal) and TROPA (@Fisicas_UCM,@unicomplutense ) 1/4
The extensive experience of both groups guarantees a high quality scientific installation. Although we know that the most important thing is the sustainability of the installation and the commitment of the people involved. 3/4
In collaboration with Parc National des îles de la Madeleine UCadMet Project (@UCAD_Senegal@unicomplutense) is going to start climatological measurements in Île aux Serpents, a pristine environment in the most western part of Africa, near Dakar (Senegal).
With these available experiments, we hope to help students from primary school to master level to understand various atmospheric and oceanic concepts in a simple and interactive way. New experiments are now focused on the climatology of Senegal. Visit https://t.co/NUGkFG4t1w
During the last two months, master's and degree students from @Fisicas_UCM and LPAOSF laboratory of @UCAD_Senegal carried out the Meteolab educational project in order to innovate teaching skills doing simple experiments about atmosphere and ocean.

El legado manuscrito de Blas Cabrera regresa a la que fue su facultad y su universidad. Es todo un honor poder presentarlo y honrar así su memoria como merece. Gracias a todas las personas que lo han hecho posible.

This is how a Saharan Sand and Dust intrusion looks like from our UCadMet observatory in Dakar. Dust intrusion started yesterday morning at high layers (3,000 m) with wind in Goree Site turning NE at the same time.
ESP and Isle de Goree sites differences in temperature. (Time lag due to data transmission). Dark green shows a steady wind velocity and direction in Isle de Goree (~N,~6 m/s). Interesting how wind turns slightly NW during central hours, ¿interaction synoptic wind and breeze?
Today we worked at Isle de Goree site. This site is perfect for wind measurement. Wind is north this time of the year due to the Trade Winds which influence notably on the ocean upwelling and fisheries in the region.
We decided to take redundant measurements of precipitation to confirm values and we have a quality assurance program that includes periodic calibration.
This week we have being with TROPA UCM group from @Fisicas_UCM checking our instruments at @esp_dakar site after a heavy precipitation season with several flooding events in Dakar region.
