@Reagleeagle 2/2.
His comments around LGBTQ+ people DIRECTLY mirror arguments that have been used for decades to undermine the rights and lives Queer people. His opinion ceases to be only an opinion, when it acts alongside decades of oppression.
We want everyone to feel and BE safe on campus
1/? We in Litsoc are disappointed and bewildered to see that Jason Evert has been invited to speak in UCD. As a society we stand behind UCD LGBTQ+ Soc in their protest against this. Every person deserves to feel at home in college and Jason Evert views concerning homosexuality
We are saddened and disheartened to hear that Jason Evert has been invited to speak in UCD this coming Thursday. Full statement below @LgbtUCDSU@UCDSU@UCD_EDI@ucddublin

Hate speech and freedom of speech are two different things. Allowing someone that preaches that homosexuality is disordered into UCD, does not allow for LGBTQ+ students to feel safe in the place they attend. We have heard what he says, and have hence acted in response to it.
We’d like to thank everyone for their support and solidarity in this matter. It has just been confirmed to us by UCD staff that Evert will no longer speak at the event.
4/4 That this is where a University's strength lies, in the individuality of students, not the pull of controversial public figures. We stand behind UCD LGBTQ+ soc and their boycott of the proposed talks.
Lots of love,
The Litsoc Committee.

3/? We as a society are aware of our many LGBTQ+ members, with many of our committee members also being part of the community. We are not 'disordered'. We are part of the beautiful amalgamation that UCD has to offer. We hope they come to understand..

2/? Do not represent a place that is welcoming to all. We ask our members to stand with us in our protest against such outdated views, by retweeting and reposting LGBTQ+ socs original post.

Samuel Beckett, who died on this day in 1989, pictured here at the end of his time with the French Resistance.
An intelligence officer, Beckett was almost captured by the Gestapo in Paris in 1942 when his cell was betrayed.
'Nothing to be done,' they say. Not so much.
I wrote a poem, sent it out, and here it is in The Irish Times 😱😱😱😱😱🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 And I might just be over the moon or something like that!

The little old lady I shared an elevator with who clocked my G & T, packet of crisps and copy of Normal People and said, in the poshest accent I've ever heard;
'Ah, the three food groups.'
