Featuring speakers from @SBWorkersUnited, @uaw2865 , @afscme3299, & more to discuss the challenges of union organizing in the UC system, ongoing Starbucks union drive, & what solidarity between on and off-campus movements looks like! ✊
Students, staff, & allies are welcome!
In response to Governor Newsom’s 2024-2025 California State Budget proposal, UC Student Association President Celene Aridin and Government Relations Chair David Ramirez issue the following statement:
Did you know @Nike COO Andrew Campion is on the Starbucks board of directors? He has the power to help stop Starbucks's illegal union-busting... but chooses not to.
Campion visited UCLA today, and students made sure he knew union-busters aren't welcome.

UCLA students stand in solidarity with Starbucks workers across the country✊ @SBWorkersUnited
Andrew Campion, you are not welcomed here until you do something about Starbuck’s illegal union busting!!

📣Calling all students📣 Tell Asm. Kevin McCarty that it’s not acceptable to push last minute legislation that impacts us without our input. This bill gives us no assurances for a guaranteed transfer pathway.
Call on @GavinNewsom@CAgovernor to VETO A.B. 1291 ‼️
(916) 445-2841
Who wrote #AB1291? Not @_UCSA or any UC students, our 75,000+ transfer students, who experienced the complex transfer process, weren't consulted. Legislation without student input isn't student-centered. #VetoAB1291@GavinNewsom@CAGovernor
We’re joined by @SSCCC_OFFICIAL in opposition to #AB1291! This legislation makes compromises no student would have made, we deserve a systemwide guarantee! Transfer reform must be created with the guidance of subject matter experts, practitioners, and STUDENTS!
UC students are appalled with the hypocrisy UC has shown us. They opposed ACA 6 under the guise of cutting costs to keep UC affordable & maintain its quality. Truth is, UC employees & student workers are given poverty wages so our administrators can live in mansions free of cost.
Aaaaand here’s the moment you have all been waiting for! Here are the campaign goals we will be diligently working on for the upcoming year!
A big thank you to all the students who attended our 2023 Student Organizing Summit and helped identify and develop each of these goals!
Proposed legislation would require the University of California system to guarantee admission to transfer students using the same criteria as the California State University system. https://t.co/TNROA2Ht3r
"Students like myself are faced with an uphill battle of uncertainty in a system that is already too confusing. #AB1749 represents an opportunity to close equity gaps by simplifying transfer pathways," David Ramirez, UCLA transfer student.
Yesterday over 100 people signed up to give public comment to talk about student issues and instead of extending time to uplift student voices, the UC Regents and @UCPrezDrake have SHUT DOWN public comment. We refuse to be silenced!
Over the weekend, UCSA board members voted unanimously to pass a resolution in support of Starbucks Workers United, who have called for solidarity in their fight for a union and a fair contract from workers and allies across the country ✊
Here is the Metro 'Sepulveda Transit Corridor' Project Station location feedback form (they are ending Station location feedback, soon):

First: Join the picket! And don't cross the picket line to go to class.
DO NOT report your TA’s to admin. UCLA already sent an email disguised as undergraduate “support” asking you to report on which TA’s or sections are not meeting/have gone on strike. DO NOT respond to these.
#AB705 has been pivotal in supporting more Black and Latinx students to a four-year degree by removing remedial barriers to transfer-level courses. #AB1705 is @CAgovernor's next step to create a stronger CA by expanding equitable placement implementation.
We agree! Carrie Starbird, Dean of Math at @PCCLancer explains why #AB705 was a landmark bill for her students. We must ensure every community college student has the right support and pass #AB1705. @SenMariaEDurazo@sydneykamlager
Union members from UAW2865 & @sruuaw joined with @AnteaterTenants at the ribbon cutting ceremony for this UC housing complex, where many tenants spend 55% of their income on rent😡
Hey @UofCalifornia, time to agree to our bargaining proposals to end rent burden for grad workers!
As student, financial aid, higher education, and equity advocates, we celebrate last year’s historic investments to expand access to Cal Grant to over 150,000 more students, and we now urge state legislators to support #AB1746. We must make financial aid more accessible now!
