#EarlyDetection is key for Colorectal cancer (also known as colon cancer).
If diagnosed early, it can increase your chances of survival. Know the risks.
Awareness on colon cancer is being campaigned nationwide this month, as part of #WorldHealthDay theme: 'My Health, My Right'
“Those who have the fewest resources to manage their #cancer burdens will bear the brunt of the increased 🌍cancer burden.”

Cancer mortality in low & medium #HDI countries is projected to almost double in 2050, vs 2022 estimates https://t.co/NP97RvuHJV
Significant advancements have been made since the Global Strategy to eliminate cervical cancer was adopted three years ago, yet critical action is still needed to reach global targets.

#WorldObesityDay#Obesity is now considered a cause of at least 13 different #cancer types: cancers of the breast (in postmenopausal women), colorectum, endometrium, kidney, liver, gallbladder, ovary, pancreas, gastric cardia, oesophagus, thyroid, multiple myeloma, & meningioma.
#WorldObesityDay
Some estimate that #obesity will overtake #smoking🚬 as the main factor associated with cancer in some countries in coming decades; interventions at both population & individual level to↘️ obesity & sever the obesity–cancer link are critical for #cancer control.
The global cancer burden is growing.📈

Lehan Hefer, a UCT MedTech Masters student at the University of Cape Town, delivered a progress presentation this morning.
Lehan's work focuses on the "Design and Development of a Speculum-Free Cervical Cancer Screening Device," aiming to revolutionise the way cervical cancer screenings are conducted.
By eliminating the need for a speculum, this innovative approach seeks to make screenings more comfortable and accessible, potentially increasing the rate of early detection and treatment.
We are immensely grateful to @merSETASocial for recognising the importance of Lehan's research and providing the necessary funding. Lehan's research is supervised by @SudeshSivarasu, and co-supervised by Rakiya Saidu.
We eagerly anticipate the future developments of his project and its impact on improving cervical cancer screening methods. Nice work Lehan!
IARC release latest estimates of global #cancer burden.
We estimate 20 million new cases & 9.7 million deaths from cancer occurred in 2022.
Detailed incidence & mortality info for 185 countries & 36 common cancers now available in IARC's @GLOBOCAN_GCO
