Another very important topic as part of the Public Law Conference 2026.
The Centre for Law & Society runs the new Amicus Lab project, where @UctLaw students get involved in cutting edge litigation. Recently, James Lowman and Kaila Jaffee, final year LLBs, assisted @EqCollectiveSA as amicus in a landmark case on early childhood development.

The Deputy Chief Justice offered reflections on court funding, institutional independence and accountability of the judiciary, as well as the importance of engagement between the academy and judiciary
It provides an opportunity to take stock of the critical work being done to defend and advance constitutional democracy, share experiences across the sector, and collectively explore ways to strengthen this work in an increasingly challenging environment.
