University of the Cumberlands senior Natalie May has been selected for Georgetown University’s nationally competitive CURE-M cancer research program — an opportunity awarded to just 10 students out of more than 760 applicants nationwide.
This summer, May will conduct biomedical and oncology research through Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center while exploring future career pathways in pathology and cancer research.
From Williamsburg, Kentucky, to Washington, D.C., May is turning her passion for science and helping others into hands-on cancer research experience at one of the nation’s leading research institutions.
University of the Cumberlands and Maiden Drug Company recently awarded the Deborah Carol Childress Endowed Scholarship to Kianna Ballew and Maddox Hubbard, two local students pursuing careers in education.
Both students participated in Cumberlands’ Dual Credit program during high school and will continue their academic journeys this fall as secondary education majors.
Established by Cumberlands alumni Jonathan and Roger Powers, owners of Maiden Drug Company, the scholarship supports local students pursuing degrees in education.

University of the Cumberlands is expanding its healthcare programs with the launch of a new Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
The 9-semester OTD program prepares future occupational therapists through hands-on labs, clinical experiences, and community engagement, equipping graduates to serve rural and underserved communities across Kentucky and beyond. The program is designed to address growing workforce demand in occupational therapy.
With strong career outlook data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and a focus on student success, the University of the Cumberlands School of Occupational Therapy continues its commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare education.

On the Williamsburg, Kentucky campus, Orientation Day blends essential academic information with student life experiences that help incoming Patriots feel prepared and connected. From coffee meetups and campus traditions to student ID pickup, dorm tours, financial aid guidance, and interactive activities in the Mid and gym, the day is structured to introduce both resources and relationships.
