This evening, UHRC Member @ckaheru attended the launch of, My Father and I: The Power of Intentional Fatherhood, a book authored by Col. Edith Nakalema (@edthnaka), at Protea Hotel, Kampala.
Addressing guests, Col. Nakalema, who heads the State House Investors Protection Unit, said:
“If my story can inspire even one father to give his children the priceless gift of intentional presence, then my father’s legacy of upholding godly values and dedicated service to humanity will live on.”
Retired Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Henry Luke Orombi, delivered the keynote sermon, urging the congregation to “bring a good name to your family.”
The function was also attended by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu (@Archbp_COU), the Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, among other distinguished guests.
Col. Nakalema announced that proceeds from the sale of the book will support the completion of All Saints Cathedral, Kanyeganyegye, in Kashari, Mbarara District. @ChairpersonUhrc@BKamadi@lo_apitta@SimeoNsubuga@shifrahl@rwabukurukuru@mutumba_n@MODVA_UPDF
"In other words, we are simultaneously pressing the accelerator and the brake. The result is movement without momentum. A nation cannot be a construction site and a showroom at the same time. Never!" @ckaheru
"Nobody builds for commerce with the construction site wide open. Yet that is exactly how Uganda is trying to build a nation. We are renovating in public." @ckaheru
Commentary by Uganda Human Rights Commissioner @ckaheru on the passing out of new UPDF recruits, highlighting the inseparable link between security, human rights and socio-economic transformation. A professional, disciplined and people-centred defence force is not only vital for protecting Uganda’s borders, but also for creating the secure environment in which citizens can work, invest, learn, thrive and realise their rights. @ChairpersonUhrc@shifrahl@SimeoNsubuga@lo_apitta@rwabukurukuru@BKamadi@mutumba_n@MODVA_UPDF@cdfupdf
What’s tearing Uganda’s Human Rights Commission apart?
For more than three years, Wangadya said, she has endured what she describes as a coordinated campaign to discredit both her leadership and her reputation.
Now, with allegations of corruption dominating sections of the media and exposing deep divisions within one of Uganda’s most important constitutional bodies, she decided to respond publicly.
Her remarks offer a rare glimpse into a bitter internal conflict at the institution charged with protecting Ugandans’ fundamental rights.
They also raise questions about the stability and effectiveness of an organisation whose constitutional mandate includes investigating human rights abuses, monitoring places of detention and holding public institutions accountable.

Building responsible businesses starts with knowledge and action.
To strengthen the understanding and application of Business and Human Rights (BHR) principles, we conducted a capacity-building training for business owners, managers, and representatives from Uganda's renewable energy sector.
Participants were also introduced to the Business and Human Rights Self-Assessment Tool, enabling companies to assess their policies, identify potential human rights risks, and strengthen responsible business practices across their operations.
Representatives from 30 renewable energy companies under @UgandaChamber participated in the training, demonstrating a growing commitment to integrating human rights into business operations and advancing a more sustainable, inclusive, and responsible energy sector in Uganda.

Delighted to see Ugandan products increasingly earning shelf space abroad. Over the past few months, I’ve proudly been buying Uganda, building Uganda (BUBU) from stores across the UK, Europe, Asia & beyond. It’s coffee, chocolate, tea, fruit snacks, even cassava (‘mogo’), & much more. Yeah! So, let’s process more. Brand more. Export more. That’s how we’ll build more Ugandan wealth. Our work is not in vain. 🇺🇬
Safe working conditions and the elimination of child labour are key to building responsible, inclusive, and sustainable business value chains.
As part of ongoing Business and Human Rights monitoring in the Busoga region, @Mglsd_UG and @UHRC_UGANDA visited stone quarry sites and sugarcane plantations to assess the availability and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), promote compliance with labour standards, and identify and address cases of child labour.
Every worker has the right to a safe and healthy workplace, and every child has the right to learn, play, and reach their full potential.

The link is straightforward @sekandiron . Human rights begin in the family. Intentional parenting, responsible fatherhood, dignity, care, protection and the nurturing of children are all foundational human rights values. The Commission’s attendance at the book launch reflected its mandate to promote a culture of human rights and support initiatives that strengthen families, family values, respect for human rights of children. It was recognition of a message in the book that aligns with the Commission’s preventive and promotional mandate.

Always a pleasure catching up with our friend, the Belgian Ambassador to Uganda, Hugues Chantry. Thoughtful conversations, fresh perspectives, & always a worthwhile exchange without a doubt.
Today, I had a good engagement with H.E. Sasayama Takuya, Ambassador of Japan to Uganda. Japan’s footprint in Uganda continues to speak through practical partnerships & people-centred cooperation that deliver meaningfully.
Respect for human rights is the foundation of responsible and sustainable business.
Through our Business and Human Rights initiative, our partner @UHRC_UGANDA conducted compliance monitoring visits and community barazas at flower farms in Wakiso District.
The engagements created a platform for workers and community members to voice their concerns, access free legal services, and have their complaints received and addressed.
Beyond strengthening accountability, the visits reinforced collaboration between @UHRC_UGANDA and the flower companies, fostering a shared commitment to respecting human rights, promoting responsible business practices, and creating safer, more inclusive workplaces and communities.

📢CONTEXT📌
We have noticed a widely circulating video on social media which was selectively edited to create a distasteful framing of the issues our @ChairpersonUhrc was addressing.
The interview, held yesterday with @bbstvug , was meant to clarify that the "corrupt MPs" that the President H.E @KagutaMuseveni forgave recently, after our Chairperson recorded them solicing for bribes, had turned around to fund a section of Members of the Commission to peddle falsehoods against her on a daily basis. See video 📹

Dear @AKasingye , the fact is, there is a section of Members of the Commission who, for long, had made it their business to propagate negative propaganda against the Chairperson. As she engages the relevant authorities, she also sought the same platforms they have been using to clarify and set the record straight.
Unfortunately, the said media houses ignored the gist and substance of the interview.
As one of our key stakeholders, you ought to understand us better than anyone else.
