Twenty-five years on, we remember. 

Their Majesties the King and Queen paid their respects at the 9/11 Memorial during the State Visit to the United States this year, honouring the lives that were lost and recognising the courage of the men and women involved in the rescue efforts.

Today, UK Minister for the Americas Chris Elmore joined the Mayor of New York City, the Governor of New York, former Mayor Mike Bloomberg, and other leaders at the Memorial in New York City. They stood in silence as the names of the victims, which included 67 British nationals, were read aloud. Minister Elmore also visited the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Garden in lower Manhattan, a permanent living memorial to the many British and Commonwealth citizens who lost their lives that day.

Ambassador Christian Turner attended memorial ceremonies at the Pentagon, while Deputy Ambassador Lucy Ferguson visited the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Minister Defence Mark Newton led British Embassy Washington staff in a moment of silence.

The enduring bond between United Kingdom and the United States is built not only on our common values and interests, but also on our shared sacrifices.

Remembering all those affected by the tragic events of 9/11, 25 years ago today.

A commemorative Guard Change took place on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace this morning, during which The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester took the Royal Salute on behalf of The King.

The ceremony included performances of both US and UK National Anthems, Hymn to the Fallen and Amazing Grace.

Earlier this year, Their Majesties paid their respects at the 9/11 Memorial in New York, as part of the State Visit to the United States.
