🇬🇧 His Majesty The King congratulates the President and all Ukrainians on the 35th anniversary of Independence:
Happy birthday, North Rhine-Westphalia 💚🤍❤️
80 years ago today, a UK initiative created this German federal state.
From a relationship between an occupying power and a war-torn German region, real & deep 🇬🇧🇩🇪 friendship has grown.
Today, NRW is Germany's most populous state.
Ukraine Independence Day is more than a date 🇺🇦
It's a language. A culture. A community. A shared identity passed from one generation to the next.
Happy Ukraine Independence Day to our friends.
Thank you to Minister President @OlafLies and MEP @berndlange for today's discussions in Hanover.
We discussed how the UK and Germany can deepen cooperation on trade, innovation and economic growth, building on the strong ties between the UK and Lower Saxony. 🇬🇧🇩🇪

The UK is proud to support Professor Dapo Akande’s candidacy for election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), reflecting our commitment to international justice and the rule of law. With deep expertise in international law and global experience in its application, Dapo would be a huge asset to the Court. He has received the most nominations of any candidate.
The ICJ plays a vital role in helping states resolve disputes peacefully through international law. If elected, Professor Akande would join the Court’s 15 judges, who serve nine-year terms.
From 1961 to 1989, the Berlin Wall divided Berlin, Germany and Europe, becoming a symbol of division and the loss of freedom.
At the Berlin Wall Memorial today, I joined others in remembering Peter Fechter and all those who lost their lives at the Wall.
Their stories remind us of the human cost of division and the importance of defending freedom. We must continue to work for peace in Europe, recognising that war brings division, and division brings suffering.

65 years ago, construction of the Berlin Wall began.
In the early hours of the morning, barbed wire fences were erected, tearing families & friends apart.
The wall that divided not just Berlin, but the country in two, was brought down by a peaceful revolution 28 years later.
A shared language, no translation needed: music. 🎶Delighted to bring together young musicians from Northern Ireland and Berlin with friends and partners to celebrate talent, creativity and the power of cultural exchange. The future of music looks bright. 🌟🇬🇧🇮🇪🇩🇪
Ukraine's fight is our fight.
The UK is taking further action against Russia, with new sanctions targeting those behind the Kremlin's war effort.
We will continue increasing pressure on Russia for as long as it takes.
As Ukrainians slept, Russia launched another deadly attack on Kyiv. The devastating impact on civilians and civilian infrastructure is truly horrific.
The UK will continue working with partners to support Ukraine and to hold Russia accountable for its aggression.

Tonight's vigil in Soho Square for the attack on Berlin's Christopher Street Day was incredibly moving.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who came and stood in solidarity with Berlin and the LBQTQ+ community.
Hate will never win.
