@UKMetric a metric measure also permits a larger type size that can be read from a greater distance . might be critically important in traffic conditions
Interesting video: "What's up with the UK's height signs?"
(The truth is even odder... Many bridge signs don't even meet these standards, with errors aplenty. The solution of course is just use metric only!)

@networkrail You can start with low-tech no-brainers. How on earth are there still bridges without the height shown in metres? Notwithstanding how many British people work in metres, 3 million vehicles from overseas visit the UK each year. None of their drivers know feet/inches

One of the most fraught cultural fissures between Britain and France is how we weigh and measure things. @murielzagha explains why the French do it the metric way:
On this day in 1975, Canada made the change from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
This was just one part of a decade-long process for Canada to convert to the metric system. It was a huge undertaking.
This is the story of Canada's Metric Conversion!

Could metrication have shortened World War I by 2 years, and saved millions of lives?
In 1904, Parliament came close to fully-adopting the metric system. In our latest blog article, we consider one of the possible consequences of failing to do so.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the #metrication of speed limits in the Republic of Ireland. 20 January 2005 was the day that all speed limits in Ireland switched from mph to km/h.

@Snial@mikegalsworthy Finally completing the switch to metric in Britain has nothing to do with European culture or the EU. It is simply the most straightforward and logical measurement system that happens to be used by almost every country in the world, making global trade that much easier.
@UKMetric
@mikegalsworthy We don't have the power to win that battle. We should pick a fight we can win & that brings us closer to European culture without changing our status with the EU. That battle is to make us a fully metric country. It'd be a good practice run for activism & winning. #MoreMetric.
I agree that a pint is too large a volume of beer for many to enjoy all the way to the bottom of the glass.
But if we are going to popularise a new measure, can we please - for the love of the Gods of Beer - make it an SI measure?
Millilitres, millilitres, rah rah rah.
Completely fascinated by the person in the pub who, when asked how far 5,000m is, converted it to miles, then into km and then announced authoritatively that it’s “a bit under 5k”
