Very interesting work on fingerprinting ASICs in the Bitcoin network, giving insight into hardware distribution; leads to enhanced estimates for electricity consumption!
A year in the making, the new nonce analysis methodology I designed & collabed with the @coinmetrics team to put out is now public!
We fingerprinted ~all major ASICs to pinpoint Bitcoin’s energy usage, e-waste, & efficiency

First time featured in the „week in Ethereum newsletter“ and directly in the #muchClicked section ☺️

@Mnemnopt@leashless We are only talking about scope 3 emissions of holders and entities transacting without double counting. Scope 2 is not part of this framework
@oconnell__@Lotus_Ether@Mnemnopt@leashless @TheEdenDao @usepatch The hybrid methodology attributes emissions to both holders and entities executing transactions; as the block subsidy is indirectly paid by the holders (due to inflation), they also bear responsibility for carbon emissions.
@oconnell__@Lotus_Ether@Mnemnopt@leashless @TheEdenDao @usepatch In Bitcoin, 99% of the overall revenue is coming from block subsidy; in Ethereum about 80-90%; therefore, emission attribution should happen accordingly.
@Mnemnopt@leashless Yeah, we got a running version using the hybrid approach in our API at https://t.co/CmMHzJlqBz. We are currently bundling it with proper address scanning (w/o etherscan) to get a full picture of an address‘ carbon emissions including Erc20/Erc721.
