I read that my state, Kano, has budgeted ₦8 billion to feed people during this blessed month of Ramadan. While the state government has not provided details on the execution plan, my calculations show that ₦8 billion could potentially provide meals to more than 5 million people. At ₦1,500 per meal (a modest meal), the budgeted ₦8 billion would provide 5,333,333 meals.

While this feeding initiative is commendable, still there are important questions that, if Kano State prioritizes transparency, will provide answers with breakdowns and details. How will the meals be distributed? Will the program prioritize the most vulnerable? How transparent will the allocation of funds be?

Ramadan is a time of compassion and generosity, and I do hope the feeding initiative reaches as many people as possible.
