A brilliant day bringing the U-Maths Network together @conferenceaston for our 2026 Network Day.

From shaping our emerging mission and strategy to 2030, to exploring the role of University Maths Schools in the wider maths education landscape, the morning was packed with thoughtful discussion and insight.

The afternoon saw our AGM alongside a series of spotlight updates - including the revised national curriculum, progress on new Maths Schools in Durham and Nottingham, and reflections on the evolving Ofsted framework - before closing with a shared conversation on priorities and next steps.

Thank you to all our speakers, panellists and colleagues across the network for such an engaging and forward-looking day.

We’re incredibly proud to see students from University Maths Schools recognised in this year’s UK International Mathematical Olympiad selections.

Following the training camp at Trinity College, Cambridge, Anango and Michael from @kingsmathschool have been named in the UK IMO Squad, while Anango and Emily from @CamMathsSchool have been selected for the UK team heading to the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in Thessaloniki, Greece, this May.

Emily will also represent the UK at the 15th European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad in Bordeaux, France, this week.

Congratulations to all involved, and good luck!

Yesterday, ahead of #InternationalWomensDay, students from across the University Maths Schools Network came together for an inspiring event celebrating women in the mathematical sciences 💚

From using AI to study elephant communication to designing aerodynamics for Formula 1, we heard from brilliant speakers applying maths in extraordinary ways.

A huge thank you to our keynote speaker @dralicemorrell, our fantastic workshop speakers for so generously giving their time, our brilliant alumni panellists, and of course the students who joined us to celebrate!

We're also grateful to @aumathsschool for hosting us so warmly, and to @TheHgFoundatio1 for making the day possible.

A milestone moment for Surrey Maths School as students move into their permanent home in Guildford.

Just a two-minute walk from Guildford train station, the new site makes it easier for students from across Surrey and beyond to access a specialist maths education and be part of a thriving community of young mathematicians.

It’s fantastic to see the continued growth of the University Maths Schools Network and the opportunities it creates for students with a passion for the mathematical sciences.

Fantastic to see @LUSoM_ mentioned in Parliament last week.

As @mayaellisuk highlighted, it’s a brilliant new place for 16-18 year-olds to take A-levels in maths and maths-related subjects - and a joy to hear students who once felt unsupported in their passion for maths now have somewhere they can truly thrive.

Every visit reinforces what we already know: culture and community matter - and everyone who visits becomes a convert to our collective mission.

In October, we brought together parliamentarians, school leaders, supporters and alumni in the House of Commons to mark the launch of the University Maths Schools Network.

The evening reflected the strength of the partnerships behind University Maths Schools - and a shared commitment to widening access to high-quality mathematics education.

Since then, @educationgovuk has confirmed that @DMSsocial and the University of Nottingham Maths School will go ahead, completing the national network.

Looking back at this event now, it stands as both a celebration of what has been achieved and a marker of continued progress.

University Maths Schools are the top-performing state sixth form in every region lucky enough to have one already.

The latest DfE KS5 data also places 🥇@iclmathsschool, 🥈@kingsmathschool and 🥉 @cammathsschool as the top three state schools for A Level outcomes.

Even more importantly, University Maths Schools deliver exceptional value added: students achieve, on average, half a grade higher per A Level than similarly qualified peers nationwide - and that uplift is even greater for disadvantaged students.

The magic of a Maths School goes way beyond the grades: we’re helping young people with an interest and enthusiasm for the mathematical sciences to truly thrive. But we’re nonetheless delighted to see how well they do!

Congratulations to our CEO, Dan Abramson OBE 🎉

Yesterday evening, the Academy for the Mathematical Sciences appointed its Founding Fellows at the Royal Society, London - a historic milestone for the Academy and for the role of mathematics in the UK’s future.

As part of this inaugural cohort, Dan joins an exceptional group spanning academia, education, industry and government - including Fields Medalists, leaders in computing and machine learning, senior public servants, educators and science communicators - brought together to help tackle some of the UK’s biggest challenges through mathematical insight.

As a Founding Fellow, Dan will contribute to shaping how mathematical science informs public policy, innovation and long-term national decision-making, ensuring rigorous, evidence-led thinking sits at the heart of government and industry.

Dan said: "I'm delighted and honoured to be a founding Fellow of the Academy, and am excited to contribute to its mission and to help strengthen and diversify the pipeline of future mathematical scientists."

We’re incredibly proud to see Dan recognised among such a distinguished founding group - and excited about the impact this work will have.

Our CEO, Dan Abramson OBE, was honoured to give the after-dinner speech at the @ActuaryCompany Burns Night celebration at Drapers’ Hall.

Drawing on Robert Burns, John Napier, and Scotland’s tradition of the 'democratic intellect', Dan spoke about how University Maths Schools help mathematical talent thrive regardless of background - so the next great mind needn’t be born a Laird.

It felt particularly fitting to celebrate this message with the Worshipful Company of Actuaries, who support innovative projects across the University Maths Schools Network, including @CamMathsSchool, Exeter Maths School, @kingsmathschool, @LUSoM_ and @LeedsMathSchool.

Thank you for the warm welcome and for including U-Maths in such a special night!
