I'm deeply saddened by the tragic incident that unfolded on the outskirts of Alungu, Lafey Constituency, in Mandera County, where three innocent children, while herding goats and sheep near their home, unknowingly stumbled upon a strange object and began playing with it.

Heartbreakingly, the object turned out to be an explosive device, which detonated and inflicted grievous injuries on the children. They were immediately rushed to Mandera Hospital for urgent medical care.

This distressing occurrence serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for heightened vigilance and swift action by our security and defence agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter. It is imperative that all unexploded ordnances and hazardous materials within civilian zones are meticulously identified, secured, and safely disposed of to safeguard lives and prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.

I earnestly appeal to the State Department of Defence to airlift the injured children to Nairobi for specialized medical treatment and to strengthen preventive mechanisms to avert similar incidents in the future.

My prayers are with the affected families during this difficult time. I wish the injured children speedy and complete recovery and pray that such painful incidences will never recur.

Even in his passing, Baba unites us, reminding us that freedom, fairness and unity are ideals worth every struggle.

Your flame will forever light the path of Africa’s eternal quest for justice and truth.

My condolences to Mama Ida, the family, the ODM fraternity, the country and the continent of Africa for the loss of this remarkable son of Africa.

Today, I had the honour of joining His Excellency President William Ruto, alongside senior government officials, for fundraising support to facilitate the construction of ten madrassas in Mandera County at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi organized by Governor @MohamedAKhalif who played an instrumental role in the success of the program.

The event prominently underscored the unlimited value of Madrassas, which stand as timeless beacons of learning and moral guidance in our society, nurturing faith, instilling discipline, preserving cultural heritage and inspiring a profound spirit of service. They are enduring pillars in shaping future generations, firmly anchored on the foundations of knowledge, integrity and noble values.

I sincerely thank His Excellency the President for his steadfast support towards Islamic development initiatives and for reaffirming the government’s commitment to empowering institutions that strengthen both faith and community.

Safely landed in Mandera County this morning together with @IGADsecretariat Head of Mission to Kenya, Dr. Fatuma Adan, Amina Farah- Manager, @IGADgender ,among other officials for a two-day IGAD Gender Department’s Cultural Transformation Initiative, supported by the Government of Japan. This important programme seeks to dismantle harmful gender norms and promote equality, inclusion and opportunity for women and youth.
I also joined North Eastern Regional Commissioner (RC) John Otieno for a security visit and briefing.
Together, we reaffirm our commitment to building a region anchored on peace, security, sustainable development and shared prosperity.

Social & cultural norms continue to shape how women & youth participate in our communities. At Mandera, @IGADsecretariat Gender Office with support from the People of @japan is convening traditional & religious leaders, community influencers, media & policymakers to challenge harmful norms and foster gender equality.

This CulturalTransformation initiative recognizes that shifting norms is central to peace & security in the IGAD region. By engaging those who hold influence in homes, schools, markets & places of worship, we can create inclusive spaces where women & youth thrive.

During the opening, Amina Farah IGAD Programme Manager called for stronger platforms for women & youth voices in decision-making. @FatumaIAdan IGAD head of Mission for Kenya reminded us that culture, while sometimes a barrier, can also be a driver of transformation.@UmmuKassim Women Representative Mandera County stressed that sustainable peace is impossible without gender equality.

Over 2 days, leaders will engage in community dialogues, capacity building & action planning. Together, we aim to build a supportive cultural environment that dismantles harmful norms and champions equality as the foundation for peace & development. #igadgender
