11-year-old Roman Oleksiv, who survived the Russian missile attack on Vinnytsia, spoke at the European Parliament during a documentary screening about Ukrainian children. He shared the story of losing his mother in the attack. The boy survived severe burns through 36 surgeries and long rehabilitation.
His story moved the translator to tears as she interpreted his words for the audience. Despite everything, Roman continues to study, dance, and make music, inspiring others with his message: “Never give up. Together, we are strong.”
Yesterday in 1989, the #UN adopted the #UNCRC. Yet today, its protections don’t reach Ukrainian children who are losing their homes, waking to missile strikes & mourning their parents. We must see, hear & help ease their suffering: #StandWithUkraine"https://t.co/4XvjdyhW8o❤️
⚡️🇺🇦 Eleven Ukrainian children have been successfully returned to Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories and Russia as part of President Zelenskyy's Bring Kids Back UA initiative. The effort was carried out by the Office of the Ukrainian Ombudsman with the mediation of the State of Qatar.
The youngest child returned today is 10 years old, and the oldest is 17.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a total of 1,453 children have already been brought home from the temporarily occupied territories and Russia.
A few stories of families:
▪️ The mother of a 13-year-old girl was released from Russian captivity in April 2023. Her daughter and grandmother remained in the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region. The girl kept asking how she could find her mother and live with her again. Today, after long and meticulous work, for the first time since the full-scale invasion began, the mother and daughter were reunited.
▪️ Five children from one family were also returned. The children's parents had been deprived of parental rights, and during intense fighting in their region, their guardian took them to Russia. For some time, there was no information about the children's whereabouts. Eventually, they managed to contact their sister in Ukraine and expressed their wish to return home. Today, the large family is back together.
Thanks to coordinated efforts, these children are home today. Ukraine is deeply grateful to the State of Qatar for facilitating the reunification of these families.
Ukraine will continue working to ensure that all our citizens return home.

russia has a special methodology for kidnapping children from Ukraine. According to Falcon Flight organization, children are told that their parents have abandoned them, russians split them up with friends every two months and say that they will never return home.
