Just FINALLY finished sanding the second Empress Dagger (from Monster Hunter World) - now I just have to mold, cast, and paint the entire things (though I did some resin color tests!)

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan I agree with you in this case, but I’d caution against assuming that in most cases. A number of indie darling games were finished and made good *in spite* of leadership. It’s not always a one for one. You’d think it would be, but I’ve watched the opposite a sad number of times

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan Yep! That’s exactly what I’m saying too. I don’t like this for anyone. I err on the side of speaking up for the people who’s contributions get acknowledged way less, esp since afaik the leads aren’t even on here.

@Alan_Au For real. It seriously bums me out that people start from a place of assuming “please support these overlooked creators and keep their contributions in perspective” means “these other creators are bad and don’t deserve support”. Literally didn’t even occur to me.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan Like we literally do not know any of them. I think extremely highly of their work and what I’ve seen in interviews. I also think extremely highly of the rest of the team. There’s no point in pretending I know either group better than the other, and no need rn to speculate.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan The sad thing is success opens up people in those roles to dumbing their own work down a lot of times. It’s just not as simple as “these three people were the only bulwark from mediocrity”.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan fyi that’s not what producer means in games, producers are on teams doing project management and coordination stuff that’s extremely valuable and dev-directed. It’s not like film or tv. I think you’re thinking more along the lines of funders or investors?

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan Comparatively to the worker’s platform, it dwarfs theirs entirely. I don’t blame them for being frustrated. I think they have a right to respond generally, and they’re not in a position to bully someone with a bigger platform or anything.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan Assuming a single tweet started this all off seems… very broad. The person mentioned they’d been seeing a bunch of takes about it. So have I. This is kind of the issue with Twitter in general, we don’t all see what each other is saying. And that tweet went viral.

I’m more worried that I’m going to find out that they were awful to work for or WORSE, and I’m not really prepared for that. I don’t want that to be true either. There’s no sense in borrowing misery from any fake future.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan DE is my favorite game of all time. I have a piece of it tattooed on my chest because I needed that story so badly. There are a million ways to be sad or concerned about it that don’t make the only people who have a chance of keeping it going now feel shitty about themselves.

@Dabigchungus2 @whoaitsjoan I have seen plenty of people on this site and elsewhere say they don’t care about DE2 anymore and that the studio is dead. Since the people still there are directly impacted by it, they probably see the most of it.
